Screen goes black and mouse goes crazy

So I have this old computer that was a prebuilt(HP p6510y) and was slowly upgraded. There was a power surge 2 days ago and that's when the problems started. I get 2-3 second black screens when I open the browser or any other program. Opening CSS or GTA IV crashes the pc, CS 1.6 works fine. I ran Memtest86 for 16 passes (8 hours) and had no Errors. I downloaded Seagate Tools and HDTune to check the Hard drive and they both said good health and no bad sectors. Now I'm missing some other programs to test out my other hardware. Do any of you see anything wrong here? Everything should be stock. (would have used fraps but it would just crash the pc)

I see that you have checked the hard drive, but how about the file system?

Open a command prompt (use the 'run as Administrator' option) and type chkdsk /r.

When the computer crashes in games, is it the same games always? If so, that would suggest the file system problem.

Good to hear the Seatools check came out fine. Which test did you run?

I did the "chkdsk /r" and left it alone. I guess it completed while I was away because when I returned it was back at the home screen. Is there a log I can pull up somewhere? It still goes black/No Signal when I open the browser. It's gotten REALLY SLOW since yesterday...

Yes, there's only 4 games installed on that pc. (GTA IV, CS 1.6, CS:S, and L4D2) They all crash.

Seatools Long Generic Test. Thanks for the help

Can you down clock the video card and test again ? some of these factory oced models aren't stable at all.

Reading all again. so far you did the chkdsk/r.check the disk. Now do you have anything overclock.is the Mobo set to default.and last did you try a clear CMOS.won't hurt.

The fact.is the screen going black is usually gpu.the mouse going nuts could be virus.but since this happen after power surge.I would clear CMOS to refresh.

I cleared the CMOS , but it's still doing it. Should I just replace the 470?

Edit: Something weird just popped on my screen. It happened so fast and I couldn't read it, but it looked like it said "KOOM" with big overlapping letters in blue.

Very rarely do I need to boot off a CD to remove a virus/malware. Running programs within Windows should do fine. I would start with Malwarebytes. Superantispyware has also done well for me.

So, I booted Bitdefender from the USB and was doing a scan for about an hour. Now I have a black screen;no mouse. It's been like that for 30 minutes now. What should I do?

Nah, I just held the power button. I scanned and deleted 2 files while scanning "Sys Files." it's weird because it wouldn't let me do a "full scan" anymore. I'll update once I finish scanning the main drive... Hopefully it fixes it.
