I installed a fresh installation of XP, and then sp2, and now when I boot up the screen goes black from the windows logo to when my desktop appears. For example, if I run chkdsk on the system partition during bootup, the screen is black while it is running until it gets to the desktop.

Anyone know whats going on?

You mean right before it hits the desktop the screen goes blank (like black)? That seems to occur on all XP systems. It's just like XP getting to the desktop really fast but it actually taking a full minute to REALLY load EVERYTHING.

For example, if I run "chkdsk c: /r" and then reboot, the light blue screen that usually comes up when booting, where the user can see chkdsk running (after the windows logo but before the desktop), does not appear, and it is black/blank while it is running instead.

Uninstalling/reinstalling video drivers fixed this aged issue.

Go figure, just when you think it might take a genius to figure it out...
