Hello!

I have a major problem with my PC. The screen freezes randomly, i realy don't know why.
Iv googled a bit and i found that the problem may be caused by a virus or RAM memory. When i went to the local computer shop they had told me that is a hardware problem or temperature problem.
Today im getting a new case fan, and i hope that will solve the problem...
Anyway...can you help me? What can i do to fix that? I don't realy wanna pay the guys at the computer shop to fix it because is realy expensive there.

MY COMPUTER:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP 2

BioStar P4M800P-8237 Motherboard
Intel Pentium 4 , 3.00GHz
1 GB of RAM
ATI Radeon 9250/9200 Series video card with 128 mb video memory.

Thanx! :)

its important to know anything that you changed on your system ,( hardware or software) , just prior to the freezing beginning . assuming this is fairly recent behavior?
ps..what are your temps?

those temps are not out of the ordinary, that is not your problem.
By no components, you seem to be speaking of hardware, what about software?
allowing months to pass before attempting to diagnose makes it more difficult.
Other then that, if It were me,
I would start with testing the memory, and running virus and malware sweeps.
there are threads stickied in the security forum to help you with that. Your startup programs would be another place to check.

Well... yesterday i started a scan with BitDefender Total Security 2011 and my computed crashed(freeze) at 62% scan complete...
But...my RAM are kinda low a too...i only have 300-400 Mb free...could that be the problem?

And...i formated my HDD 5 times and instaled 2 versions of Windows XP and one of Windows 2000 and still same problem

System locks are usually a RAM issue, however thats not to say a windows driver update isnt causing the issue

Test the RAM for errors. Also avoid using the generic Windows drivers. I remember having lockups with my Radeon AGP card years back when used with the "Windows compatible" generic drivers. Download some drivers from AMD's site.

Also a corrupt hard drive partition causes freezes. Try backing up your drive, do a low level format and try installing Windows again (don't use generic drivers). See how it goes

How to test the RAM memory?

Your PSU is fine.

To test the RAM, download this: http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download.html
Burn the ISO to a CD. Boot from the CD and there you will find RAM testing tools. Pick any of those and test the RAM. If it's faulty it will show. Check this out and we will see what next.
