Screen flashing

I was messing around in photoshop today when my screen started flashing. It flashed 3-4 times, very quick flashes. Thought maybe it was PS and closed it. Now it flashed while I was browsing the internet. Got my first visual artifact ever yesterday on my desktop and game, and the game started stuttering so I had to lower the resolution to fix it. Is my video card dying? My friends 9700 recently died, and he said he had similar issues shortly before. Many 9700's seem to be failing in the last couple months from what I've heard. Lifespan?

Flashing as in copletely blank or as in flicker like low refresh rate?

Flicker, but it happened only the 2 times I described. It's wierd and totally random.
