Screen Capture Software - PC

I need a solid bit of Screen Capture software for my PC. Windows 7 x64 compatible.

Camtasia is freaking expensive. EZvid requires that I upload it to YouTube. CamStudio just isn't stable enough for my needs and barely picks up my USB mic which I can't amplify.

Jing creates those damn .swf files that are nearly useless unless you embed them in a browser.

Is there not a sub $100 piece of software out there that will do basic (let me select an area or specify a screen) recording w/voice over and then cut it up (optional even, I can do that in another app...) and then output to .mp4 for the Handbraking?

Help me out please! I am having a hard time believing that this product doesn't exist!

I use something called Movavi Screen Capture that does pretty much everything, but their support are crap once you stuck into problems. They offer free trial though.
 
Thanks guys, I'll certainly look into those options.

I did figure out how to use Microsoft Expression 4 (it has a separate executable for the screen capture portion of the software - doh) and that seems to be working fine right now.

$38 sounds entirely reasonable to me. It's not that I expect it to be free, but $300 for camtasia seems too much.

DXTory is like an upgraded version of FRAPs to me. It's default codec is pretty decent but I use Lagarith when capturing then compress to h.264 with x264. It can capture multiple audio streams and muxes them into separate audio streams within the AVI it outputs. Works really well if you want to cut up the audio and redub parts without messing with the video.

It also does not limit your framerate if you're capturing at for instance 30fps. Also it can stripe recording accross multiple HDDs and then build into a single AVI afterwards. Works well for preventing frame drops due to disk I/O. I love it.
