I just recently built a new computer and the first time i turned it on, it started making a really loud screeching noise. The noise continued as long as i had my computer on. ANy ideas why?
I'd open the case while it's on and have a listen to see if you can isolate the location. You can carefully touch your finger to each fan's rotating center to temporarily stop it from spinning to see if it's a bad fan. Also check if there are any stray cables getting in the way of fan blades.
- Is it coming from the speakers or is it a mechanical noise?
- If it's mechanical it's either a fan, a hard drive or a CD-Rom drive. Process of elimination: disconnect all your drives and see if it still makes the noise. Check each of your fans.
