Scratches in counter top.

Is there a way to remove them?

My roommate decided it would be a good idea to cut something on the counter without a cutting board, and now there are two visible scratches in the finish. :| I'm thinking maybe some very fine steel wool to try and buff them out, or as a last resort, a marker to at least fill in the scratches the same colour.

Any ideas?

Put in marble countertops 🙂

Try rubbing compound first. The same thing you use a car's paint to get out scratches. Can't hurt.

Steel wool might scratch it more.

 

Contact the countertop manufacturer. They might be able to help w/touchup stuff.

Hmmm, good idea.

The steel wool I was referring to was #0000 which you can supposedly polish glass with. 🙂

Nope, just your standard late-90's wood core/resin outer layer counter top.

I'd try rubbing compound in a back corner first. make sure your not going to rub too much off or stain it., My sister used the steel wool trick and.....it didn't go very well.

Hmmm.

Theres GOT to be a way to do this. I really don't want to replace the entire countertop just for a couple of small scratches. 🙁

You may be able to pick up touchup....usually if you can catch a fingernail in a scratch buffing / sanding it out will also cause a slight distortion. This solution also doesn't lend it self well to veneered/formica/contact type countertops.

#0000 can remove things from glass, and it can polish glass, but not to optical quality.
