I burned mine once. Was lighting a match and a piece of burning sulphor flew off and caught me in the eye. It was incredible how fast it healed. 2 days of wearing an eyepatch and it was completely fine. Not the least bit of discomfort or blurred vision once the patch was removed.

I got a small splinter stuck in my cornea when I was 14. The doctor scratched it out with a hypodermic needle

My daughter speared me in the eye wiht her fingernail when she was about 4 or so. I went through the same thing. It all looked like it had healed fine after a month or so. Then a few months afterwards I woke up, opened my eyes, and experienced it all over again.

Turns out she didn't just scratch mine, she put a crescent gouge into it. If my eyes dry out enough while I'm sleeping (especially from heat) then when I wake up my eyelid sloughs the gouge out again and I'm back to square one. That was 7 years ago and it still happens, though much less often. Doctors have said there's just nothing to do for it, so it may be for life. Or it may eventually heal enough to stop happening.

I've scratched my cornea twice. The first time I got hit in the eye with a tennis ball. The second time a roll of tape (haha). Hurt like hell both times. I have some pretty good birthday pictures of me wearing an eyepatch opening presents.

Great, now religious extremists are going to try to attack you, accusing you and your Flying Spaghetti Monsterism of attempting to subvert and pervert good, decent values.

I'm just curious, OP - do you wear glasses or not? I do not want to give up my glasses, partly because I don't feel like being bothered with all the various solutions needed to care for contacts, partly because the idea of putting anything in my eyes just freaks me out, but also because my glasses have saved my eyes on numerous occasions.
Stuff has flown at my face unpredictably over the years. In one recent example, someone was cooking something with alcohol in it, and apparently was supposed to ignite the alcohol in the pan. Upon discovering that no one here had a lighter, he didn't know what to do, but the pan remained on the burner. The alcohol exploded. There was hardly anything left in the pan. Yes, some of it spritzed on my glasses. It wasn't searingly hot, but I don't know that alcohol in the eyes is much fun.
Sometimes it's even been my own fingernails, when making a clumsy hand motion for something near my face, my fingernail hits my glasses instead of my eye.

I'm a die repairman, sometimes at my job I have to grind dies and throw sparks or chips right at my face. One time I was bent over, but having to grind up over my head, using a very course carbide burr, my safety glasses slid down my face and a very large chip, maybe 1/8" X 1/8", hit and stuck right on my pupil.

I could see it looking out.

Nothing like having a ghetto emergency room doctor with the DT's picking a chip off of your eye while you watch.

I now have learned to grind using a mirror and stay out of harms way. (btw-I always have a woman's compact in my pocket at work)

Well, I don't wear glasses, but I can agree....once I was outside and had sunglasses on, there were some jugs of diesel in the back of my truck....was gonna vent them and let the pressure out....popped the little vent and some diesel sprays out onto my face....without the shades my eyes would've been screwed.

not as much as your nuts can hurt.

While taking Tae Kwon Do lessons, I was kicked squarely in the nuts hard enough to lift both of my feet off the ground.

A deep scratch on the cornea is far worse. OP, I hope you feel better soon! They didn't dilate your eye though?? Usually that's pretty standard (from what I understand). I had one of our dogs jump on our bed a few years ago, and his claw went right across my eye. That was the 2nd most painful thing in my life. I went to the ER, and then the following day I had to return to the ER because the pain was excruciating. Apparently my return visit resulted in some sort of write-up for them because they didn't dilate the eye during the first visit (my wife worked at the hospital in quality control).
