Scratch Removal

Well how deep are we talking?

If it's a clearcoat only scratch and you want something that works well by hand, I can't recommend Meguier's Scratch-X enough.

It will take several applications and some elbow work but I've used this extensively on my black Subie with great results. It's impossible to mess up practically as long as you use the right applicator.

Deeper scratches will need to be machine polished out, which you may or may not feel comfortable doing yourself.

If it's down to the metal or primer, then you need touch up paint or will have to repaint the panel.

Any pictures? Can you feel the scratch if you drag your fingernail over it?

If you can provide a closer up pic that would be even better. From the looks of it the scratches go down to the primer, but they aren't that wide. I like scratchx and while it won't make them go away in this case, it will make them much less noticeable. From the many scratches right around the door and the slight dent, it looks like you scraped a pole. I did this once and ended up using touch up.

Well it's not my car, it's one that I was thinking about buying. That's the only thing turning me off about the car.
 
That would be tough to get rid of unless you repainted, IMHO. You could try touchup paint and then wetsanding, but I think that something that long would still be noticable.

 
If you can get a few hundred dollars off what you would otherwise pay, you can take that difference and have someone remove the dent and buff it out for you. I'm surprised the seller didn't bother doing this, because that car (honda civic?) should have strong resale value otherwise.

I don't think there is a dent in it but I could be wrong. I actually live 4.5 hours away from where the car is located at 🙁.
 
From the pics it looks like it's past the clearcoat, although it's really hard to tell.

If you can't inspect it yourself, ask the seller if he can feel the scratches with his fingernail. If he can, it can't be corrected by hand or by machine. You'll need to touch-up or respray. From the amount of defects, it really looks like a respray will be the best option, but also the most expensive.

However, if it is past the clear coat you can certainly diminish their appearance with polish, the polish will round off the sharp edges on the clearcoat making the scratches look far less noticeable, but again, they'll never get removed.

So find out if it's past the clear and let us know. If it isn't then you're in luck. You can find a professional detailer (not one of those wash-n-wax jobs) and they can fix it for ya.
