I was wondering if one of those disk cleaners/scratch removers are worth it if they do anything at all? I had my computer apart and was using my pro cd in my drive and well the drive was kinda at a angle. It was tipped a little forward andnow I have a scratch all the way around the disk and I can't install it on my other computer because it comes back with an error when i try to boot off of it. It almost gets through the blue screen where it loads the drivers and then it comes up with an error where some file is unreadable please press enter. So i press enter and then it says system fail, press any key to restart.

So has anyone used one of those cleaners/scratch removers?

If I were you, I would just download an ISO of the xp cd. It technically isn't illegal since you own the original. Use your key when you install it.

If its a legit version. Call up MS THey will probably send you a new CD for the price of shipping ~$5

This is why I hate it how people like RIAA are trying to get rid of things like Bit Torrent. It can be used for perfectly legitamate situations like this one.

I'd agree if I thought that even 5% of the activity was legal stuff

Thanks for the replies. I did try something along the lines of a disk doctor, solved the scratch problem but now I get an error later on in the installation.

I would appreciate it if you could host an ISO for me Xaekai but I would need it asap and I was just going to pick up another OEM version of windows at my local store for $155. I realize I can't be pushy about it but I really do need it fast as I can't do anything on my computer until I get windows installed. I'm using another friends computer now. Is that ISO up-to-date as far as having service pack 2 etc?

My copy of windows is legit, I bought along with my last system an OEM version. Thanks for the help guys.

OEM needs an OEM key and RETAIL needs a RETAIL key. Make sure you get the right iso or you know how to change the PID.

PS: This would all be easier if you just copied the whole cd to your hard drive. Don't use Explorer for this task though because it stops on read errors. I recommend Directory Opus which has a 60 day trial.

You would then know what files can't be copied because of the scratch. Then anybody could just send you those files.

You can then create and burn a new cd.

Well, I'll just buy a new version then, because i don't have time to deal with this right now, I need my computer up and running asap.

Thanks for the offer on the ISO though.

Next time I am burning a copy of my windows cd and just using the copy and keeping the original safe and sound. What a mess...
