Hi,

Little background story.

I exercise everynight with a friend. We run, do pushups and crunches, then play soccer down at the local university (University of Oregon).

So tonight we run 3 miles, do our pushups and crunches, then head over to the soccer field. This is a artificial turf because the sprinklers run durning the night on the grass ones. Plus the artificial one has the best night time lighting (we always run at night because we both work till about 10:00 at night). Anyway, on Monday there are a bunch of Mexicans playing. We have just been playing off to the side, but last week I noticed one that I knew from high school soccer so I asked if we could play. They said sure. It is good playing with them (even though we don't understand a word :p), as they are skilled and it is better playing in a team environment.

Anyway, I generlly take off my shoes. This being an artificial turf, it scrapes them up. But it doesn't generally do too much damage. But tonight we got done with running earlier than normal so got to the soccer field earlier than normal. Thus, I was running much longer than I usually do on the field. This resulted in huge blisters on the bottom of my feet, which then broke and scraped off some of the skin (I finally stopped playing when this happened. Probably should have at first sign of blisters but I was having too much fun and the pain wasn't too bad at first).

Now it hurts to walk on it (duh;):p). I bought some large type bandages from Safeway on the way home. Should I just apply them or should I wash, then apply? What about peroxide? Should I cut off the skin that is seperated from the foot but still attached, or leave it?

I wish to heal as fast as possible so I can continue my training.

Thanks for any help.

P.S. On a brighter note, I played really good soccer tonight. I think the Mexicans were suprised. At one point I dribbled through four of them, right up the middle, and hit a curve shot for a goal:):):). I was quite pleased with myself :p:D

Put alcohol on a tissue and hold it against your foot strongly.

The pain will be so great, that when you walk you wont feel a thing due to the greater pain of the alcohol.

Iodine works too but I perfer the smell of alcohol.

lol... Is this sort of like the "cut off your arm, then you won't feel the pain in your foot" kind of thing, or does the alcohol help to heal?

It does both ;)

Well... it disinfects that's for sure... Myabe Polysporine will do the healing part (Ask your doctor) or instead of alcohol you may want to try calamine lotion to sooth the pain.

Similar thing happened to me playing touch football on some very compacted sand.
The best thing you can do to help it heal is to keep off your feet as much as possible...get some polysporin or something similar and keep putting fresh bandages and ointment on it...dont wear your shoes or socks when you're at home, etc.

It sucks as far as your training goes, but the more you use them, the longer it'll take them to heal.

Oh, and wear shoes when you run.

I wear shoes when I run :p

Just not when I play soccer, because I get a better touch on the ball when I have no shoes. I have natural turf cleets, but no artificial/indoor soccer shoes. I really need to buy some I think so I won't need to go barefoot anymore.

Ahhhhh it hurts like hell!!!

Didn't have any rubbing alcohol, but I had hydrogen peroxide. Thought that would work alright. So I washed the wounded areas with water, and that stung. But oh that was only a hint of what was to come.

Applied the peroxided and OUCH. I pressed and cleaned as long as I could manage (about 20 seconds) before the burning became too much. Then I put those big a$$ bandages I bought on.

Hopefully it helps though.

keep the bandage on and replace them when neccessary, to prevent infection and encourage faster healing try to apply neosprorene. You should keep your injury protected until complete healing.

freakin-A! This same thing happened to me a couple days ago! --just not quite as bad. I recommend the following, I healed in about 4 days.
1. Wait one day, then cut off the loose skin, it will die either way.
2. Rinse wounds frequently and rinse with Hydrogen Peroxide to disinfect.
3. Use neosporin on the wounds to help them heal.
4. *this is the most important part* Keep the bandages off as much as possible so that the wounds can get access to oxygen to help them heal. If you always keep them bandaged, it will take longer to heal and they'll get all moist and white. yuck. I would wear bandages during the day and then nothing at night (but don't walk on the wounds).

I feel for ya

kinda similar problem.

I think I've been bitten by something on my right feet.
It itches like hell.
I've been using cortizone and goldbond for 3 days now and still itches and reddish (rashes)
I also took chlortrimeton or benadryl, make me drowsy. No improvement.
Is there anything else I can do or just go to a doctor (dermatologist ?)

......scratch......scratch......

For burns and blisters, I use these bandages called 2nd Skin and medic tape to secure them. Then take them off and let them air out for a couple hours every day until they progress enough to use regular bandages and Neosporin. Works dandy and minimizes pain.

I've read the sport medicine bibleText and they recommend keeping your the bandage on to protect the wound and provides an ideal environment for the tissue to heal. Which I think makes sense since our body cells need a relative amount of moisture live.

Friction blisters. Amazon sells friction-reducing ointment.

Find some better shoes. I have only bought New Balance 11 4E for years. They almost always fit me fine right from the getgo. Really wide feet. Ducks regard me with envy.
