Any other Scottish P&N posters around here? What do you all think about the independence vote?

I used to be against it in a big way. I'm English by birth, but moved up to Scotland and bloody love this place. I didn't want to see it rejecting Britain.

But now? I want to reject Britain! I want to get rid of GCHQ, selling my secrets to the Americans. I want to get rid of the bloody House of Lords. I want to get rid of the Conservative Party, and the Labour Party- they're both as bad as each other. I want to get rid of the London-centric politics we have, where they only ever send their "B-team" to the boondocks of Scotland (or even northern England).

Screw the lot of them. Let's go independent.

My ancestors moved to America From Ireland and in out family history it says to never forget the Tyrany of the British. My grand mother said we were Scotts Irish and some of our ancestors were at the seige of Ulster. Scotland will always be considered a Colony. However, Independence has a whole list of problems in itself. You need your own Airforce, Navy, Army, Security Police Force, Militias, etc. Then what will you do for fuel and everything else that comes from outside of Scotland? All this has to be planned out ahead of time.

Freedom comes at a cost. I have no Idea how the economy in Scotland works. Even if you kick out the military of britian, you will still have a lot of people in your country who may not respect laws and want to do harm.

Not Scottish, but last I read the main issue with Scottish Independence was its material/economic reliance on UK infrastructure.

Fuel is the easy bit- the North Sea has plenty of oil and gas. And Scotland has no shortage of wind and rain, so turbines and hydropower will help out ;)

Airforce, Army, etc- plenty of bases that we will "inherit" from the UK, and plenty of army regiments originating in Scotland. Not sure about the assets such as tanks, planes, ships etc, I suspect they would be taken back by the UK. But we only need a defence force not aircraft carriers and nuclear armed subs, so it should still work out cheaper than funding the British political class' Napoleon complex.

Frankly, "tyranny of the British" doesn't sway me one way or the other. My ancestors did some downright horrible things to plenty of people in the past, no denying that, but that doesn't really factor into why I'd want an independent Scotland. Scotland is hardly repressed these days... at least, no more than England is.

I was watching a documentary where Mel Gibson already tried this....I don't think it worked out too well.
