I don't agree with the decision since Megrahi was probably involved even if he didn't mastermind the attack (which was conducted at the behest of the Libyan government in retaliation for Operation El Dorado Canyon).

I'll say this for Reagan, you didn't fuck with him and not expect some sort of unpleasant response. Gaddafi was probably a little miffed that he came real close to personally buying the farm.

You can't punish a man with terminal cancer by keeping him in prison

Sure you can. Just don't treat him and don't let him see his family before he dies.

Many terminal cancer patients refuse treatment anyway to avoid prolonged pain - withholding it would probably be the best thing for him. Stopping him seeing his family only hurts the family.

And we care about his family why exactly? Why again do we care about compassion for a man who murdered over 200 people, including women and children?

Those questions are easy to answer. All you have to do is ask them of a terrorist. Why should he care about the families of his victims. Why should he have compassion for people who are judged to be destroying the world including millions of women and children? Look deep into that mirror and see who it is you condemn. That's right, that worthless filthy piece of shit that needs your compassion is you. As you judge so will you be judged.

The quality of mercy is not strain'd,
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest:
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.

Anyone actually do any research into this thing before launching into Glenn Beck style judgementalism?

A lot of people believe this man was not guilty - the one person who testified that he sold clothes (fragments of which were found) to him allegedly had been paid $2Mil for testimony. Also, the same person was not sure of his appearance but had seen pictures of him in magazines. Thirdly, the owner of the company whose circuit board fragment they had found has publicly said he was offered $4 Mil by the FBI to testify as well but refused. Not to mention that it was reported 17 hours before the flight that the luggage had been broken into - but the police lost the report, which was also not brought up in trial.

Regardless, even if he was guilty of buying kids clothes from a merchant that were found in the suitcase with the bomb, perhaps the Scottish didn't want to stoop to the same level of scum that they convicted. Also, this probably saves them a high amount in healthcare costs.

The victims families are justifiably outraged, as this is the only person they can point fingers to because of his (rightful or wrongful) conviction by the Scottish but I think he was convicted because they had to have a conviction (the other person that went to trial was released).

As for the reaction other Americans not directly involved with this sad incident, not surprising to see a lack of compassion from them in general.

Here's a secret: Bush masterminded the twin towers collapses and personally strapped the bombs to the buildings' support beams.

Britain is royally fucked up, no pun intended. They release a mass murderer for no good reason, yet ban a talk show host from their country because of his opinions.

Also the people who destroyed Iran flight 655 never spent a day in jail and were hailed as heroes in the US. I'm sure this is different because

Can we start talking about Freedom Kilts now? I wonder what the average Scot's response to this is.

How is rewarding a mass killer the right thing to do?

I'm sure everyone understands that the murder victims will never come back. How does that justify not executing their killer or allowing him to die painfully?

US Army officer Second Lieutenant William Calley was convicted of ordering the killing of between 347 and 504 unarmed women, children and elderly in the Vietnam War. He served 4 and a half months in prison, no one else involved were convicted.

Notwithstanding the hysterics of the US public (and UK tabloids), the majority of the British think that there was a miscarriage of justice, and that an innocent man was imprisoned for something he did not do. There have been a numerous articles and documentaries detailing the false conviction (understandably, the tame and brain-dead US press did not mention any of them). The appeal hearings were scheduled soon, and many thought that al-Megrahi would be cleared and set free.

He dropped his appeal under the condition that he would be freed, and saved the UK (and their US masters) a lot of embarrassment. So the US and the UK should be thankful to al-Megrahi.

I know where Scotland is and I know that they have their own "system" of justice. I also know that Britain has a lot to say in what Scotland does.

You need a lesson in understanding the bigger picture.

So what? Does that mean we release everyone?

The point is Americans have little moral standing in just about any situation that involves the deaths of innocents.

The last time I checked, you were free to leave the country if you hate it so much.

Obama should step up and say: Ghadaffi, turn this guy over to the USA for a proper trial, or prepare to lose another daugher in an epic bombing.

I can't believe the UK f'ed us in the A like this.

What that means is Americans are outraged that a scapegoat with less than 3 months left to live was released after 15 years, but someone who admitted massacred double the number of people got 4 months. And Americans that shot down IR655, a passenger plane carrying 200+ people got away scot free, and were given military commendations.

To recap, Americans should get a clue and perhaps some facts to go with a mirror to look at themselves before passing moral judgements.

How is killing an innocent going to pay for the killing of innocents? Such epic flag waving fail in here.
