This is a discrace on so many levels. So what if this guy is dying. If he wants to see his family they should fly them to the jail. Did anybody ask what if this guys plans more bombings while out of jail? What if his cancer goes into remission? Would this terrorist stay on the loose? Does Scotland even care about the familes???

Release him? They should shoot him.

What's really sad is that after we had discovered that Libya was behind it, we didn't invade, loot the country, lynch Kadaffi, and install a puppet government.

This really is ridiculous when you look at the crime he committed. Why do people feel the need to be compasionate to scum like this? Let him rot in jail.

Reagan killed his kid. Probably the most effective use of our military in the past 40 years. In and out in one night. Barely heard a peep from the guy since.

The father of one of the victims has stated that he feels this man should be released as he never thought he was guilty.

Fingers have been pointed at the Libyan government and/or Iran.

I always find it ironic that the justice system will sentence somebody to a term that guarantees they'll die before release, but if they actually then come upon a terminal illness they sometimes get leeway.

The reason is simple. Some people place their humanity above their desire to also be the scum they criticize.

The only essential function performed by law enforcement is to prevent people who have no humanity from being able to prey upon others and to try to humanize those who must be separated from the rest of us during their period of separation.

But because the same illness that infects the criminal also infects many victims and huge swaths of the general population, all the hatred that drives the criminal to sin against the rest of us drives us when it comes to getting even.

We hate ourselves and the sickest among us hate ourselves so much that we destroy every child we can lay our hands on. In this way we insure a steady supply on monsters to pray upon society. Then when one of these monsters who is a reflection of us hurts us we happily allow the monster in us that created the monster in him or her out of it's cage to seek retribution.

Those of us who successfully repress the criminal hate within us so as to avoid the law, unleash that monster when it is legal. That is why we legalize revenge.

Poor humanity filled with self hate crawls along its cave floor in search of the light, in search of the love that was lost in childhood. Poor poor humanity filled with the pain of the circle of hate. Poor poor humanity will not follow Jesus up on the cross to consciously suffer that pain and be reborn. Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do. Send them a message Father, that the filthy animals they were made to feel themselves to be is not who they really are. Help them Father to see that Hell is the place where they have hidden their hearts.

Well ....

The possibility exists that this scum-bag was a small bit player, there are a large number of unanswered questions surrounding the bombing, and Moammar Gadhafi (who most likely approved of the bombing) is now a member-in-good-standing of the international community.

Let's not forget the $1.7 billion in 'blood money' paid by the Libyan gov't.

And if I were Scotland I wouldn't want to pay his medical bills, anyway.

I'd prefer he die in a Libyan prison but I don't have a vote.

That level of delusion is much deeper than can be induced by drugs.

There has been a bunch of speculation that the guy was railroaded, I say, prove it. The internet has a way of amplifying and concentrating all the crazies. Whether it is the "we never landed on the moon nut jobs" or "birthers" and everything in between.

Prove in a court of law that this guy is innocent or let him rot in jail. Better yet, put a bullet in his head save the expense of medical treatment.

P.S. I think I am really starting to love P&N :)

1) He may not have done it.

2) You can't punish a man with terminal cancer by keeping him in prison - the worst possible thing has already happened to him. You're only really punishing his family. In fact, if anything, the treatment in a Scottish prison is probably better than the best hospital in Lybia, so he'd be better off there.

This is a very good point, and BTW it's not just the Socts that pay for it, it's all of us in the UK.

Sure you can. Just don't treat him and don't let him see his family before he dies.

Many terminal cancer patients refuse treatment anyway to avoid prolonged pain - withholding it would probably be the best thing for him. Stopping him seeing his family only hurts the family.

Well, look at it this way. The British public saved themselves hundreds of thousands of pounds in incarceration and expensive terminally ill health care costs. It's now coming out of Gadaffi's pocket.

And we care about his family why exactly? Why again do we care about compassion for a man who murdered over 200 people, including women and children?
