iwearnosox,

There is the law of diminishing returns on A/V gear. Definitive Technology is probably 95% of any of the overpriced, esoteric gear you mention. If you actually have that gear why would you looking at this thread? I'm not thread crapping. Just trying to get people into quality sound.

Dick

If I actually had this gear? I'm here because all gear is interesting me me, regardless of price. I'm very selective about the gear I purchase and tailor it to my taste, lifestyle and budget.

If "At $299 or $449 the Kenwood is Ghetto. My Definitive Technology center channel alone cost more than the htb-504 system" isn't thread crapping, then what the hell is, Dick?

I don't see what the point of this is. If someone wants to get a home theatre system for $299, why would they care that someone else spends more than that on a center speaker?
If someone is buying a used car for $3K, does it matter that others spend that much on rims?

This system can barely get a decent output below 30hz and I don't know why you defend it....I have heard it and would rather just use my TV speakers than use electricity on it. But to each his own...I know alot of members crapped on me when I listed my computer set-up. I guess we all have different priorities in life.

the waver

<< I just came from Target ni Cerritos, CA and they were selling these there at $299 as well. >>

:Q

There is a target in my area...unfortunately it is still being built. 🙁 No fry's and no target...yet. Dasm.

"I have heard it and would rather just use my TV speakers than use electricity on it"

That's asinine. Some of us do not want to spend thousands on home theater and it has nothing to do with not being able to afford it. What the hell are you doing reading a thread about a "ghetto" home theater system anyway? Just here to trash it huh?

iwearnosox and supertool -

i think the point is that people want to hear comparisons between this unit and similarly priced ones, not against thousand dollar high-end systems which will OBVIOUSLY sound better. back to the car comparison, if i found a great deal on a honda civic, it wouldn't make much sense for you to stack it up against a porsche 911 gt2. of course the porsche 911 gt2 is "better" in most ways (except repair cost... haha) but we're not here to talk about them. we're here to talk about a good deal on a kenwood system.

Thanks, Visions. WileCoyote, I concur. My point was only to show that regardless of one's equipment it does little in the way of constructiveness to threadcrap as above.

I said what I had to, I'll not continue unless I've got something to add to the htb-504 discussion.

I've had this system for about 6 months and I have no problems with it. The reciever has all i want (including dolby, pro logic, circle, and svideo, spdif). It came with everything i need besides the dvd player and imho this system sounds pretty good.

You can get the 504 for $449+ shipping at etronics.

I've installed 2 of these for friends so far this year. Both have been EXTREMELY satisfied. 95% of the people out there wouldn't know a good speaker from a bad one, so why should they spend the money on something they don't need?

Before I recommended this, I listened to a LOT of stuff, and for $450, you cannot beat this system. Even for $900 you can't.

<< At $299 or $449 the Kenwood is Ghetto. My Definitive Technology center channel alone cost more than the htb-504 system >>

weak. my component cables cost more than your definitive technology center channel

iwearnosox wow, is that a dorm room? hehe

Hey namlook, your not to bright. I am the one who coined the term "Ghetto" in this thread. Why don't you read the posts if you have the ability.

There is a minimum amount you have to spend to get good sound. The price quote given about my center channel was not to brag but to point out a entire system for $400 is not going to cut it. But if you are happy with it I've seen some good Lennoxx sound deals I can let you in on.

misterj- If you are lame enough to spend that much on a cable I have a good deal on a vacation villa on the Gaza Strip.

Howdy,

First, I purchased the Kenwood HTB-503 (older model) about 2 years ago. I could very easily bought a system which cost 4 times that amount (got it from 800.com with msn x-mas discounts and PM and stuff $286 shipped to my door 🙂 ) I have the system setup in my front room which is a cathedral ceiling 15'x24' and the system rocks! My father purchased a Denon AVR-5800 which costs something like $2500 just for the A/V receiver... He was impressed with the sound of my system.

OK, I listen to movies loud, the bass rocks, the 5.1 seperation is great, 🙂 I work with computers... 🙂 I am not an audiophile.

My Computer? you ask, now that is another story, huh, which one?
1;Gigabyte 8IRXP P4 2.2 512mb kingmax ddr333, wd 100 JB special, Gainward Ge3 64mb
2;ECS K7S6A AMD 2000+, 512mb crucial ddr266, Seagate Barracuda IV 40gb, PNY Ti500 64mb
3;Epox BX-BS dual P3 750's clocked to 840MHz, 2x Quantum Atlas 10k II 18gb, 512mb PC133 <--server

No matter what, The price of $299 is a fantastic bargain. Go ahead and check out the reviews on the net. Only a queer deeb would thread crap saying mine is better than yours.. SO WHAT!

If you are in the market for a all around decent Home Theatre in a Box, then this is it. You can spend $1,000 and it will not be twice as good.

The Kenwood HTB-504 is a good buy.
