Admittedly not as "cheap" as some coupon based "minimalized configurations, but this one is equipped with 100GB/1GB/DVDRW and comes with 3 year onsite warranty.

They also have a version with XPpro/Office SBE for $2799, this again is very good as those additions cost about $400 (XPPro=$119, SBE=$278) but are offered at only $300 more
 
I think that laptop is ugly as hell. When my girl and I saw that ad for it with the 2 guys sitting in the coffee shop we were like what person over the age of 25 is going to want a laptop with glowing lights and a wavy silver case.
 
To each his/her own, although a bit big, the Gen 2 is one of the fastest gaming notebooks out there, and price/performance this deal is hard to beat - you will ahve to pay an extra $40 so, if you are not a COSTCO member

I own the laptop and I will tell you who... People who want the best. This laptop is 100x better looking than the XPS gen 1. Everyone tells me they like the laptop actually. I like the back of the laptop lid (wavey? what waves? It's machined metal) To me it reminds me more of Apple notebooks, having lots of metal finish. Cept I wouldn't be caught dead with one of those abominations. It has the best screen you can get on a laptop. I don't look at the lid, I look at the 1920x1200 screen. Dell built a solid laptop for once, I had never bought one before, but I am a believer now. And the leds, those can be turned off. Show me a laptop for less with the same screen and a 6800 Ultra Go and a Pentium M.

Though i could use a good laptop for gaming.
 
I would have to agree - it looks horrible! Then again if you want top of the line, with loaded everything, and that lasts 30 minutes on battery power - then this for you! (well I'm being some what sarcastic). As far as the screen, it's 17 inches @ 1920x1200. Compaq has been offering a 15.4 inch @ 1920x1200 - you can't even see the pixels ;-) . Nothing special.
 
Unless you REALLY want the warranty you will save money with the coupon thread that you refer to (which gives you a free (but probably crappy) printer)

Not to beat this issue to death - but your box is "CHEAP" at $2051, thus it does not include Anti-virus software (costco deal does offer 15 months of NIS - $79), nor wireless card - $25 or so?), no external tv tuner nor remote 🙂 ($150 or so?) nor as you stated the 3 year warranty ($378 or so ?)

You compiled a good deal for anyone who knows how to upgrade themselves, but the COSTCO deal is the best out of the box deal for anyone who is less technically inclined and intends to keep this notebook for more than 12 months.
 
Both the video card and the processor can be unplugged from the motherboard..... I dont know if they will MAKE upgrades for this laptop... but it is possible at least.
