How did "Scooter" Libby get the nickname "Scooter"?
With "Scooters" name being used constantly you would think someone would know?
The only other "Scooter" I ever heard of was the "Scooter" Phil Rizzuto former NY Yankees shortstop.
Was "Scooter" Libby a shortstop?

Yeah, at some point he woke up to the fact that the name Lewis "Skid Mark" Libby wasn't helping his budding political career.

He got the name because Israel tells him what to do, and he scoots to it.

Heh. "Scooter" is a fitting nickname. I see Libby "scooting" right out of this indictment

Unlikely, Fitzgerald is a hard-arse. It's pretty clear he indicted Libby b/c he's got him and he didn't indict Rove b/c he doesn't quite have the goods . . . but he's close enough to keep trying.

You would think that because the outing of an undercover CIA agent and the entire CIA company she ostensibly worked for is treason, as former Pres HW Bush so rightly stated, that the interview of Libby should be occurring in Gitmo by the CIA.

Except for a couple "little" details.

Wilson outed his own wife in his stupid book he wrote nearly a year before this incident.

Valerie "Plame" Wilson was hardly undercover. Her identity was hardly secret. Joe Wilson is an established liar with a political agenda to push.

Don't be so naive. IF there were any grounds to indict on the outing (which wasn't even an outing), Fitz would have done it. There isn't, and he won't.

Everyone else has been BS'ing your (obviously) but this is the gospel truth, no matter how bizzare it sounds. Part of the mystique of this Bush is that he gives every one of his friends and acquaintainces a nickname. To understand why Scooter is Scooter you would have to understand the workings of this Bush's mind, a territory I do not wish to go.

Thtough these nicknames, Bush draws a form of loyalty out of his people, much as a gang or mafia clan would.

One of Fitzgerald's findings today was that yes indeed Plame was outed.

This whole case is about how the WH spin-doctors abuse the truth. They out Plame as punishment for Wilson, then they lie about doing it, then they lie about wether it was outing or not.

"Scooter" = "Cheney's hatchet-boy trator"

Joe Wilson reportedly introduced his wife around town as "My CIA wife" before this entire thing happened.

What sort of evidence do you have for this one? It strikes me as highly implausible and I wonder about your source for that detail. We KNOW that most of Wilson's neighbors didn't know she worked for the CIA before Robert Novak's story.

don't listen to Pabster, he's been making many false and inaccurate statements about this case that are clearly not based on the facts.

the question everyone has on their minds has got to be why in the world would Scooter Libby lie to both FBI agents and to a grand jury on multiple occasions. this isn't a case where Libby merely mistated or forgot, he repeated the same erroneous information over and over again when asked by the FBI agents and the grand jury. something just does not add up here, and I think that is becoming quite apparent to everyone who is following this case closely. even the right-wingers at Fox News are having trouble trying to figure out what his motives could possibly be.

i really think Fitzgerald was dead on today in many of his statements. he really put to rest the notion that these charges are petty and merely the result of a technicality. these are serious charges, lying and obstruction concerning classified information has got to be a serious crime. i fully believe Fitzgerald will not let Libby off the hook one bit, and unless Libby offers into some sort of plea deal which involves naming higher ups I believe Fitzgerald will seek a harsh sentence for Libby.

as for Libby "scooting" his way out of this indictment as Pabster has indicated, not likely. his lying is well documented, even in his own notes, and we have three people with contradicting accounts of what happened (tim russert being one of them). my prediction is that Libby will go down and be made an example of. I don't think he will name anyone higher up because he just doesnt strike me as the kind of guy to rat out his friends.

You've been quite the source of "facts"

The question one has to ask is this: Why would Libby knowingly make false statements and perjure himself to a grand jury, AND THEN TURN IN HIS OWN NOTES WHICH CONTRADICT HIS TESTIMONY. Does that make any sense?

Actually, he didn't put to rest much of anything. He was called in to investigate whether Plame had been "outed" and if so, who was responsible. He couldn't determine either and clearly has no evidence to bring an indictment against anyone with respect to those.

See my comments about Libby's notes above. What I find most hilarious is watching the libbies pretend to be so concerned about perjury now. They sure weren't concerned about it in the last administration.

To me it appears Fitz's investigation has a lot of similarities to Starr's, in that both wasted taxpayer money on a goose hunt. The only difference is that, while Robert Ray and Ken Starr both indicated that perjury and other crimes had been committed, they declined to bring indictments; Fitz did.

Hypocrisy works in all directions. One could equally (and quite accurately) note the inexplicable lack of interest in WH shennanigans this time around by many left-center-right, in and out of politics.

Screwing and then lying about it.

Fat interns and the high principles on which this country was founded on.

The reality is that you'd have to go a long ways back--before you find an administration that didn't richly deserve to be impeached and convicted. Sadly, the past administration and the current one are just excellent examples of this.

I must say Bush II has been outstanding. Watergate, Iran-Contra, and stained blue skirts seem to pale by comparison.

What's with Scooter on crutches? Did the Bushies watch Bob Roberts and think it was a training video?

i don't want to see a crippled president, he's got three more years left. i do want to see our president surround himself with some new blood. i'm all for removing Rove and the rest of Bush's cronies out of the WH and replacing them with some competent people. that's about the only smart move Bush can make to save his thus far failed presidency.
