You might want to change the topic. It implies that a socket 754 mobo would be included in the $36 since you also use a "+" for the 512mb addition. Just put "sckt754 before 3200 please :D

Me too. Still a good deal, but this would have been a nice present for my brother in law without costing me much.

Hell, if it was a 512mb stick I probably would have bought several.

Nice. Some of those motherboard/video/HD/CPU combos aren't bad either. Could throw together a nice internet/office machine on the cheap for someone.

Any fan that fits the socket should be fine if you aren't going to oc it, in this case it just depends on how quiet you want it. You can get an Alpine 64 for pretty cheap I think, or if you just want to get something that'll do the job then just get the cheapest one you can find (with a good brand).

I read some of the reviews on the Alpine 64, petty good overall, for the price. Viewing the pics, I didn't see the plastic arm(s) lever that attach cooler to the board
I have a Biostar NF325-A7 socket 754 board, do you think the Alpine 64 will work on it?

I got this cheap one $10 +SH $5. My board has variable speed control, so until A64 it heats up, it runs at... 0rpm. Later, it jumps on 2000 or so rpms.

If Sempron 3000 is running at 1.8Ghz and has 128K L2 cache, I'd say over 30%. That small L2 cache is it weakest point, it takes tool on various things. Of course, you can o/c it to 2.2Ghz and further, but these Venice 3200+ jump easily beyond 2.5GHz. I'm running it at 2.5GHz and stock voltage, temperature went 5 degrees up.

Damn, I bought this one week ago at Newegg and it was $46! :(

It is sitting in front of me, as I've yet to assemble the system. I got the Alpine64 (also at Newegg), and it was $14.99 + shipping, for close to $20 after tax. The 512 MB "memory stick" I too expected to be a DDR, but it's a little flash drive, kinda funny looking but it works and it's USB 2.0.

The CPU was a great deal at $46 and it is stupendous at $36. I really pounced on it because I was nervous that they would run out - I hadn't ordered my mobo yet, which is an MSI K8N Neo v2.0 H from geeks.com per MSI S754 NF3-250 and NF4-4x ATX Mainboards @ Geeks.com.

The 170+ reviews at Newegg for the CPU are 88% 5 stars out of 5.

The Alpine64 also gets high review marks, and almost everybody says it's very quiet. I wouldn't chance a $10 cooler on a CPU to be quiet. Possibly with temperature control by the BIOS, but I have a high priority on a quiet system, so I went for the Alpine64.

The CPU is 2.2 GHz, and many say they are over clocking it easily to 2.4, 2.6 or more.

I've got mine OC'ed to 2.42 easily on the stock cooler. No issues at all. With a decent video card it plays all the games at high rez.

Actually operating frequency is king on Sempron64, cache hardly means anything. In fact, Sempron64 performs very competitively against any Athlon 64 of the same operating frequency, with the exception of a select few benchmarks, mostly 3D and gaming, and the difference in those is nowhere near 30%. There is virtually no difference between equally clocked Sempron64 with 128KB or 256KB, never more than 3% ~ 5%.

The same can be said of AMD64 in general, really. 1MB cache processors don't perform significantly better than equally clocked 512KB versions.

Great find. Thanks OP! I jumped one one and got it yesterday. The memory stick looks weak but the CPU works like a champ. This is my second OEM chip with no bent pins! I'm on a roll. :)

Hold up! NE changed it to a CPU\Cooler combo. They are pushing a $129 cooler with a 754.
