Also, I am not sure the manual 3 gets better mileage than tC. I am guessing they both get similar mileage, which would be in the mid to high 20's in both city and highway.
I think both could use an extra gear for highway fuel economy.

Also, car guru's correct me if i am wrong, but doesn't the Mazda 3 have an arguably better engine (Variable timing).

Don't wanna spend that much. Plus it's not that big.

Have to be new? Why not like a 2003-2005 Mazda 6, accord coupe, toyota solara (which get about the same or better mileage and are bigger to boot)

kinda different cars in all honesty - and i'll admit to being biased, i love my mz3 5 door.
the mz3 is either sedan or hatch, he tc is only coupe - which do you need? do you need the xtra room of the 3? do you need the more doors? for my money, all things otherwise being equal, definitely go for the 3 - more car for the money and you like driving it just as much if not more.
also, please tell me you're using classic mazda and not cory fairbanks - i bought mine at fairbanks unfortunately and will never do biz there again, i wish that classic had had the packages i wanted when i had to buy the car (previous car died completely, had to get it that weekend)
