Scientists prove farts spread germs

Scientists in Australia have proved farting spreads germs by asking a boy to break wind on a laboratory dish.

Bacteria were found growing all over the plate the morning after the experiment.

The team are now looking for sponsorship from a baked bean manufacturer or curry maker to continue their research.

Dr Karl Kruszelnicki said: "Tests involve breaking wind on to lab plates from varying distances after having specific foods and drinks."

The journal New Scientist welcomed the research which it said could help shed light on a little-known issue of public health.

Okay, who's gonna be the first to admit that they've been spreading germs in this manner when sitting in a movie theater?

that's why you shouldn't fart around people with AIDS or Immune deficiency's. Imagine that, a person who was actually killed by a fart. I know some of them are lethal, but jeez.

Right...

FYI, bacteria in the Human body contain about 90% of the total amount of DNA in the whole body. I'd say we've enough 'germs' to spread, and not only by farting.

I don't think that is correct.

I read it in an article I think. I'll see whether I can dig it up. I posted a thread on this at ATOT as well, so maybe a search on this forum might be quicker.

Well, I don't know whether to laugh or cry about that news...

It's just one more reason to keep the majority of my social contact behind the safety of my monitor...

Not a whole lot of detail in that article. The bacteria growth in the dish didn't necessarily come from the fart, bacteria can be airborne and mere settled into the dish over night.

This gives new importance to a previous thread on "fart underpants" -- seems silly but maybe we will all have to wear them someday just to leave our house?

The implications are chilling. :disgust:
