Wow, if this method ends up holding up in trials and proves viable, it could save a lot of lives. There's always a shortage of blood for transfusions etc, especially O neg. If this works, it would mean anyone that has negative type blood (rhesus absent) could provide blood for processing and use as O neg.

I was actually gona psot a thread about giving blood, but I guess I might as well do it here. Is there REALLY a shortage of blood for transfusions? I mean like do people actually die on a regular basis for lack of blood for transfusions, or is that jsuta rare occurance these days? I ask that because personally I have never given blood, and the fact that I am O- means my blood is the best for transfusioning, so is there really a chance someone could die because I don't wanna get needles stuck in my arm, or is that just BS propaganda to try to get more givers? Also, since my dad has been giving bllod for 30 years at the max rate does that mean that someone alive now might actually be dead if it werent for him doing that?

EDIT: as for O- being the collest, thats exact opposite, it is the sux because its the harest to get transfused. It might be good for helping others, but not yourself :(.

so what's next? pig's blood into human's?

Maybe synthetic/artificial red blood cells. Seems pretty difficult, but possible in theory at least.

It's kind of unfortunate that it only works on the negatives as the positives are way more common.
