"Scientists find bugs that eat waste and excrete petrol"

205 square mile size factory to make enough for the USA, but if you broke it down in smaller segments and placed them around the country, it could be done (assuming that this is feasable). Putting US workers back to work and putting OPEC out of work....a winning combination.

At least we're seeing new and innovative ways to get off the oil tit....hopefully, it will happen sooner than later.

Thanks bamacre for the link....

Yes, and technology is the way to do it, and one of our biggest strengths.

205 sq miles would equal to just 4 sq miles per state. Thats a relatively small area, easily doable, maybe near waste dump sites or sewage plants.

As long as produce enough shit to get adequate oil we can give OPEC etc. the middle finger and happily go back to our SUV's!!! 😀

Woot to that!!!

Although i am all for what this technology represents and sincerely hope that it bears fruit, i can't see any of these technologies being realized if the oil companies cannot exploit it the way they are now exploiting oil.

As an aside, i was watching CSPAN air what looked to be like a news conference and one of the dem senators on the panel clearly stated that nationalizing a part of the oil industry infrastructure in the USA is on the table and it will be pursued if things do not change for the better for the average american consumer.

Couldn't they built the factory in Alaska? There are miles and miles of nothing there.

Likely no due to tight temperature controls needed. I don't know enough details(they haven't put out much) but most things dealing with "bugs"/fermentation tend to need optimum temperatures.

I think you would want to build the plant near the waste source, so you wouldn't have to transport the stuff.

I could envision pretty small plants in nearly every city.

I, for one, welcome our new oil excreting bacteria overlords.......as long as they don't leave their chamber and eat me.
