Scientists accidentally modify fire ant DNA. Fire ants now spew a flaming napalm-like liquid. Then the monstrous-headed soldier ants move in to take a crispy snack back to the nest.


And here's another thought: What if its brain grew too, to help fill in that big ol' head? We're paving the road to an intelligent ant with powerful weaponry built right into its face.

It might be fun being a child of one of these scientists though.

It still pains me that they canceled MST3K.
 
all of the normal ants are gonna be pissed if they have to widen the holes inside the anthill for the new super head ant...wonder if he can even go inside the ant hill....

I'm more concerned with who's the better fighter. Can you imagine a worldwide killer bee vs massive army ant war? Ants would probably win. They could invade bee hives whereas bees couldn't easily invade ant hills.

This is really cool, along with a lot of the stuff we have been doing with genetics recently looks like things are really progressing quickly as of late. We look to be learning a lot, it's not going to be all that much longer before we can start making very useful changes.
 
Had one of those half-awake dreams the other night that involved one of these (with a softball sized head) falling from the ceiling and landing on my hand. I jumped out of bed, scaring the living hell out of my wife and my cat.
