The linked article makes no sense. 40% of the world's population has the parasite, yet it is "dangerous to pregnant women as it can cause disability or abortion of the unborn child, and can also kill people whose immune systems are weakened."?

Both of those can't be true. If it caused problems that severe AND was that widespread, there would be celebrity telethons every month to raise money to eradicate the menace which is decimating the world's population.

Instead of this parasite causing people to have lower intelligence and be more promiscuous, could it be that those who have lower intelligence and more promiscuous are more likely to have this disease (as well as others)?

Well, at least the part about women miscarrying is true... Pregnant women are not supposed to clean litter boxes because of the increased risk.

I don't vouch for the veracity of the article, but most of that 40% would probably in the third world. That might be why you don't see outrage.
