MEGA SHARK VS GIANT OCTOPUS

I just don't understand how that shit get's approved... like who is the producer that thinks those horrible horrible movies are a good idea.

I work in the VFX /CG industry and was offered a job on a scifi movie a while back. I laughed, then laughed again. A friend ended up taking the job. It was the one with the insects and Bruce Campbell . I got picked on from some others in the industry for not taking the job just to make some quick cash. I told them that I just couldn't do it, it wasn't the money it was the work they wanted. I couldn't do it for what they would have paid and to just turn out something to get by, I couldn't live with my name being on it.

The job paid $30k for about 6 months work. When I asked someone at the channel why they showed garbage like this the reply I got was " you can make 1 quality movie per 6 months , or 20 garbage movies, we have to fill the time with something. " The reason they do monsters is because they require no plot. Create monster, kill people, kill monster.

We have seen the results of that philosophy !

Was it the one where he was a astronaut doctor? The green aliens ate wood and fingers iirc.

If its that one, I found it kinda funny. Nowhere near as funny as Army of Darkness, but not a waste of an hour and a half.

Yes, that one was one of the very few that got me to laugh. It also starred the woman who was the sidekick to Xena. The difference between that movie and the others was certain playfullness where the actors didn't take things too seriously. It was like, "we know this a piece of shlock, so lighten up and have a good time"

And I sympathize with the whole "we don't need it good, we need it by tuesday" approach and your rejection of being involved.
I seriously wonder what kind of ratings those made for t.v. movies get.

Maybe these films make money overseas? 😕

I hope not, the general quality of those things are about what could be produced if a dozen or so of use on these forums got our own personally owned gear and put a flick together today.

Ha ha, I caught that a few weeks ago. Lorenzo Llamas as the pony-tailed liaison to the President of the US.

No way, Franken Fish is king! Would have loved to have been on that approval meeting.

"What's it about?"
"A giant fish that is brought back to life from parts of other fish, think frankensteing meets jabberjaw"
"Got it--let's do it!"

i don't know if the article is real or not. i believe like 90% of it but the other 10% I'm not so sure on.

If that's true, Fail SyFy, FAIL Glad it's not my Science Fiction channel.

there is no article. OP is just trying to be clever

With Dr. Who, Torchwood, and Primeval the BBC is currently a superior Sci-Fi channel to the actual SyFy channel.

hehe, that's about all it takes. I also suspect the BBC doesn't spend a 1/4 of the day showing Infomercials, but has 24/7 Programs.

Ya forgot Being Human. Well, not strictly scifi, but ya know, 'ish.

Well, compared to ECW being sci-fi'ish, I'd say it qualifies.

Here's some interesting stuff from the Syfy forum:

The merge is based on money coming in from main corporate stock holder GE (who, word on the street being that without Vivendi in the mix, would divest themselves of the money pit that NBC has become). Of course none of this will occur until 2010 and 2011 but I honestly did not think Vivendi would exercise its option to sell its stock this year. It comes up every year and every year they pass until now. Of course NBC's worth is down almost 25% and I guess they figure it isn't going to make that up any time soon. Certainly not with the Fall schedule they're offering. They're 'baby' USA has better shows and more critical style then the parent company. I believe NBC is doing what a lot of corporations do or did who are now in trouble - over expanding without the necessary capital. Do we really need Sleuth or Chiller? Considering how long they've had Syfy, how much have they really done with it? It can point to Warehouse 13 and Eureka and BSG all it wants but it's still struggling whereas USA appears to be doing just fine.

I would love to have Syfy taken over by someone who actually likes Scifi/fantasy/horror and doesn't consider it a slumming job to mark time until they can work for a 'real' network. I'll bet NBC will try and hold onto USA but after 17 years Syfy still hasn't broken the million mark; too many false starts and too much 'now you see it, now you don't' programming. 2010 until Warehouse 13 comes back for only 13 eps? There supposedly most successful series ever? And that's due to "financing and logistical considerations" from Syfy's PR department. And all this while still giving the world some of the worse Saturday night movies ever (and I do believe they're getting worse) plus wrestling because they've got to make some money, somewhere.

I'm afraid most (if not all) of the bad decisions made by Skiffy over the last several years can be laid squarely at the feet of Bonnie Hammer.

The woman has successfully "Fallen Upward" into the NBC Programming department, but her decisions have, for the most part, been bolstered by her over dependence on gimmicks, stunts, and PR/Stealth marketing ploys.

She should NEVER have been given the reins of SciFi. Under her "leadership", we've been given an endless stream of 2nd (or 3rd) rate monster movies, wrestling, and Lifetime network Soap Operas posing as scifi.

The BEST thing that could happen for NBC/Universal, at least in regards to SciFi, and other other programming, is if she was forced out, along with every one of her proteges who have been keeping her sinking ship afloat.

I think if SGU goes down in flames, we may see that beginning to happen

I would like to see her gone but not at the expense of SGU.
