Schwarzenegger -why let truth get in the way of a good speech

Hugenstein

Senior member
Schwarzenegger criticized for Austrian history gaffes

Maybe someone terminated is memory.

Hasta la vista the truth.

And just for fun how about a few Arnie-isms

Arnie on healthy living:
"The best activities for your health are pumping and humping."

Arnie on gay marriage (must have been channelling Bush on this one):
"I think that gay marriage should be between a man and a woman."

Arnie says something intelligent:
"That was another thing I will never forgive the Republican Party for. I was ashamed to call myself a Republican during that period." -on the Clinton impeachment

Arnie on "out of shape" chicks:
"I can look at a chick who's a little out of shape and if she turns me on, I won't hesitate to date her. If she's a good f**k she can weigh 150 pounds, I don't care." -in a 1977 interview with Oui

Arnie on penis workouts:
"The c**k isn't a muscle so it doesn't grow in relation to the shoulders, say, or the pectorals. You can't make it bigger through exercise, that's for sure."

Arnie on the people of the world:
"My relationship to power and authority is that I'm all for it. People need somebody to watch over them. Ninety-five percent of the people in the world need to be told what to do and how to behave." ?in a 1990 interview with U.S. News

Arnie denounces a Nazi war criminal...no wait he thanks him:
"My friends don't want me to mention Kurt's name, because of all the recent Nazi stuff and the U.N. controversy, but I love him and Maria does too, and so thank you, Kurt." ?on his friend and fellow Austrian Kurt Waldheim, a Nazi war criminal

 Come one, Bush just gave a huge speech last night and Kerry came back swinging, and you want to muck up the forum with this useless post?

Edit: Ok, my apologies. I missed this little line "And just for fun how about a few Arnie-isms ", and thought this was the purpose of your whole post. Again, my bad.

Idiots. READ his speech. He talks about going over to the Soviet sector to see family. He never claimed he lived in the Soviet sector.

I can't believe that article was even approved by the editor.

When I was a boy, the Soviets occupied part of Austria. I saw their tanks in the streets .I saw communism with my own eyes. I remember the fear we had when we had to cross into the Soviet sector. Growing up, we were told, "Don't look the soldiers in the eye. Look straight ahead." It was a common belief that Soviet soldiers could take a man out of his own car and ship him off to the Soviet Union as slave labor.

My family didn't have a car -- but one day we were in my uncle's car. It was near dark as we came to a Soviet checkpoint. I was a little boy, I wasn't an action hero back then, and I remember how scared I was that the soldiers would pull my father or my uncle out of the car, and I'd never see him again. My family and so many others lived in fear of the Soviet boot. Today, the world no longer fears the Soviet Union and it is because of the United States of America!

As a kid I saw the socialist country that Austria became after the Soviets left. I love Austria and I love the Austrian people - but I always knew America was the place for me.

Reading comprehension is a GOOD thing.

Kurt Waldheim a Nazi war criminal?

HAHAHA

He was an intelligence officer.

"War criminal" is just the way for the winner to claim righteousness.

In war everyone is a "criminal".

Isn't it amazing how some people can staighten their acts out.

Your post is so insightful I think it was the straw that broke the camel's back. I was dead set on voting for Kerry because I just dislike Bush. But now I realize I hate the hippie tree huggers even more, so I'll be voting for Bush come Nov.

Thanks for posting. 😉

Have a little sense of humor. 99% of my post was meant to be funny.

Some Austrian historians criticized his speech, its not like any of the speeches at the Republican convention were based on actual truth. I mean, calling your opponents economic girlie men, is clearly a plan for improving the economy, not just a ridiculous sound bite.

And Waldheim isn't a convicted Nazi war criminal, but he is certainly not Mother Teresa. http://slate.msn.com/id/2086742/

While the tanks criticism is questionable, you will note that they also debunked, Austria becoming a Socialist country after the Soviets left.

Fair and Balanced isn't their claim to fame, sir.

It's an AP article that is appearing everywhere today. These papers are accepting AP's content as factual instead of checking it. It is primarily AP's fault, but the outlets have responibility too.

And when the mistake is discovered and outted how much do you wanna bet the retraction is buried where no one sees it?

I wouldn't touch that bet with Kerry's money; You are right, sir.

did he not also say that he became a republican because he watched nixon debate humphrey (sorry if this was already discussed in another thread), a debate which never happened?

not in his speech at the republican convention. but someone said he said that back in 2001.

I remember watching the Nixon and Humphrey presidential race on TV. A friend who spoke German and English, translated for me. I heard Humphrey saying things that sounded like socialism which is what I had just left. But then I heard Nixon speak. He was talking about free enterprise, getting government off your back, lowering taxes, and strengthening the military. Listening to Nixon speak sounded more like a breath of fresh air.

No debate. Just a back and forth of speeches.

I swear, what is up with the total loss of reading comprehension when it comes to this speech?

My reading comprehension must suck... because that made total sense to me.

Ummm, what does that have to do with my posts or my observations of the lack of reading comprehension?

All I can say is Arnie has been a pretty darn good governor. I hope he runs for re-election and I'll be voting for him again.
