I have to go with Dorian Yates. The man at his peak was incredible. He won six consecutive Mr. Olympia titles-- though one less than Schwarzenegger :|. Here are some photos for those of you not familiar with the Champ.

Lee Haney is phenomenal. I met him at a show about 5 years ago when he was at or near his peak. He isn't very tall, but he is packed with muscle. He has muscle in places where I don't have places. When I was younger I was into power lifting, not body building, but a lot of these body builders are very strong as well. I hear Haney has put up some pretty big numbers-lift wise. Anyone know what his C&J, bench, squat, and press are? I watched him one arm curl 100s like they were pencils! Compared to these guys, most of us are really pathetic.

Dorian Yates is kind of froggy for my tastes, but that's the direction body building's been going for 10 years.

The women are going there as well. Frankly, I like to see a nicely chiseled woman, but when they have 40 inch chests, 20 inch guns, and thighs like battleships, I can't dig it.

I don't watch much tv, but the muscle shows are one of my favorites.

To AndrewR,
Yes, it is true that Lee Haney has won more Mr olympia title than anyone else, but he was competing at a time when there was not much competiton. I mean even the bodybuilders of the 70's (the likes of Schwarzenegger, Lou Frigno, Sergio Olivia) looked much better in every way than the guys a decade later (Lee Haney, Banut...). I do think Haney had an awesome body but not one that could be considered the all-time best. I think the guys in early 90's pretty much had the best combination of mass definition and proportions. I much rather go with Vince Tylor and flex Wheeler for the third Place.

Well, looking back at competitions with Arnold, he didn't seem to be the most "cut." He was just a HUGE mofo. He wore black trunks that made his waist look VERY small. No one could match his bulk...

ARNOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two different types of bodybuilders:

Arnold was more defined.

Dorian was just a mass monster.

Cheers,
Aquaman

My vote goes for Magnus Ver Magnusson. He's won many of the World's Strongest Man contests.

He may not look like it, but he'd kick both their asses.

<edit> He actually puts his muscle to work instead of just making himself look pumped and not be able to move. </edit>

Sort of appropos of the times, the January 2000 Muscle and Fitness has an interview with "Ahnold" in which he talks about running against Governor Gray. He thinks Gray is humorless. Although "Ahnold" is a Republican, I'm sure he wouldn't lack for color. That would be an interesting race.

I have always liked bodybuilding. While i do agree Dorian is huge, one who always came in well cut, in shape, and in good proportions is Lee Labrada.
