If anyone is interested in seeing what Schumer actually said (instead of the 15 sec Rush Limpballs clip) you may see the CSPAN2 video here. Begin around the 43 min mark.

Republican propaganda fails again.

And let me just say to all the chattering class... that so much focuses on all those little tiny porky amendments... the American people really don't care. - Senator Chuck Schumer

Obama keeps saying there is no pork in this economic stimulus bill, which is it?

Will they please put there cloths back on... this is getting ugly.
Wow that was totally taken out of context.

Yeah, kinda. But if they "shouldn't be there," as he said, then why not take them out?

No, I just watched the few minutes and cut it off after the noted quote.

We shouldn't be shocked. Republicans become small-government fiscal conservatives only when it least matters. The Democrats have the numbers, I'm not sure why they even bother fighting this. Perhaps they fear what they are doing is wrong.

You mean they are hesitant? That's change in itself, reflection is always good, something that was missing over the previous 8 years.

Not at all. There is tremendous change here. The two year olds are all flailing on the floor in full tantrum.

No, I mean they are scared that they're going to spend a trillion dollars and it isn't going to fix anything, and/or make the mess even worse. And they did it without any Republican help.

When they say this is what "all economists" advise us to do, it's bullshit, and they do know it, thus the fear. And the complaints aren't just coming from Austrians either.

Do you care that Obama's stimulus plan contains wasteful spending for projects that are only intended to benefit constituents rather than to create jobs or cut taxes?

Loaded question.

1) "Wasteful spending" is highly subjective.
2) Even wasteful spending can create jobs and/or benefit constituents
3) Tax cuts, although they have their place, aren't the cure to all ills. If you think that is the case, Reagan called, he wants his schtick back. We tried that crap already with the last POTUS. It failed. If you want to talk about things like indexing the AMT, we can talk.
4) None of the things you listed are mutually exclusive. There are many other types of spending in the bill designed to do just that: benefit constituents, create jobs, stimulate economy. Tax cuts are secondarily tacked on.

Where was all the outrage about "Pork" when the Republicans were eating much more at the trough?

I think I will make that a macro, seeing how every thread that is negative towards (D) has about 8 responses that look like that.

Hey, something has to replace Harvey's "War criminal thugs murderers" macro.

one line letter:

Dear Senator Schumer:

I care about pork.

Sincerely,

(Name)

slap a stamp on it and send it off

Dear (Name),

Because many of the things I'm about to say regarding pork have already been beaten into the ground, I will try to keep this letter short. As this letter will make clear, when one examines the ramifications of letting pork instill a general ennui, one finds a preponderance of evidence leading to the conclusion that if it were to use more accessible language then a larger number of people would be able to understand what it's saying. The downside for pork, of course, is that a larger number of people would also understand that I know some catty criminal masterminds who actually believe that it is a paragon of morality and wisdom. Incredible? Those same people have told me that merciless turncoats and the worst types of annoying, wishy-washy hedonists I've ever seen should rule this country. With such people roaming about, it should come as no surprise to you that it has conceived the project of reigning over opinions and of conquering neither kingdoms nor provinces but the human mind. If this project succeeds then sleazy, immature blowhards will be free to use paid informants and provocateurs to interfere with the most important principles of democracy. Even worse, it will be illegal for anyone to say anything about how pork avers that it values our perspectives. As you can no doubt determine from comments like that, facts and pork are like oil and water.

I would like to digress here. Pork believes that human life is expendable. Unfortunately, as long as it believes such absurdities, it will continue to commit atrocities. Pork's grievances were never about tolerance and equality. That was just window dressing for the "innocents". Rather, pork is completely slatternly, as it has proved to my complete satisfaction.

Inequality does not beget equality. That's pretty transparent. What's not so transparent is the answer to the following question: What provoked pork to fuel the censorship-and-intolerance crowd? A clue might be that I can't make heads or tails of its threats. I mean, does pork want to leave a generation of people planted in the mud of an uncouth world to begin a new life in the shadows of teetotalism or doesn't it? Is there a chance that pork isn't jejune, irresponsible, and prolix? From what I've seen, I doubt it. We can divide pork's tractates into three categories: wretched, termagant, and stingy. And that's what writing this sort of letter is all about. It's a way to challenge pork to defend its slurs or else to change them.

Sincerely,

Senator Charles E. Schumer

Must of missed this last election. All the pork and spending by bush lead to the democrats taking back tons of seats and the presidency. I am not hopefull for any sort of change as the new over lords want to out spent bush.
