Seems like a good idea to me. I know my kid would love it.

My daughters school start time in Pinole California has been the same for the last 7 years. 1st class starts at 8:30. This is nothing new.
It does make my work difficult starting so late in the morning but my employer is awesome and lets me work my schedule.

Back in my day…

Seriously, the bus was 5:55am. I've always been an early riser so I didn't mind. I won't argue with the research though.
Yea we got 3 busses, one for my wife's great nephew and niece, then the kindergarteners, and the preschool.

Preschool came second. Sometimes, the older kids and the preschool, would wait at the end of the road. who ever got there first showed up first. as early as 6:05am

There's a lot of data that suggests kids do not learn well that early in the morning.

Depends on how much sleep they had. If they keep pushing start times later and later, kids will start pushing bed dimes later and later.
We always made sure our kids got AT LEAST 8 hours of sleep...and we're up 2 hours before school started so they had time to wake up fully.

Because parents don't exist?

This should be the standard in every state.

After I retired, I was an adjunct instructor at a local college. They convinced me to teach an 8:00 AM class one semester. I agreed, grudgingly because I didn't want to be there that early. The class age ranged from 18 to maybe late 20s. They were fucking brain-dead at 8 in the morning.

I know for my kids high school, taking 1st period is usually optionally. This was done for students who took a extra period or for students who wants to get out earlier. 1st Period started at 7:35AM and 2nd Period was 8:30AM which was the normal start time for most students. Pushing 1st Period back to 8:30AM would mean the kids are getting out at 4:25PM. That is kind of late for getting out of school. Really messes with trying to get in a doctors appointment or dentist appointment after school.

Back in the late 80's, 1st period started at 7:20 at my high school. Senior year, I would get out of school at 2:15, and go to my full time job that started at 3:45 and got off at 12:45am. Monday thru Friday.

this isn’t necessarily accurate though. My two kids are opposites. One is just like me, ready for bed by 9pm, the other has always been a night owl and consistently struggles to fall asleep bythe time wifey and I set (9:30). Both have to be outta the house by 7am

edit: I should add, moving the school start time forward wouldn't change our 9:30 bedtime rule, it would just give him a little bit more time in the morning.
