We're looking to buy a RAID solution in the next couple days with a school
tech budget. :)

We would like at least RAID 5 or RAID 10 and about 1TB of space.
Our server is a tad old, but we can't afford to replace it at the moment.

It has 1 PCI slot open and TWO PCI ULTRA slots open.

Can anyone suggest some drives/RAID card to buy to make this work
as smoothly and if possible, as cheaply as possible. I think we're looking
to spend around 1K or so.

Also we are very interested in RAID cards in general for either ULTRA PCI or
plain vanilla PCI as we have another server that may need one on the future.

Thanks for any and all help,

What is the purpose/requirements of the RAID array? Your choice of array type and drive type will depend on whether you are looking for uptime, speed, odds of data corruption, or a combination of those factors.

I'm hoping you already have a backup system in place. If not, get that first. It doesn't have to be expensive to be effective.
