Depends on how badly they want to find you. I wouldn't use an American provider, or anyone from the Five Eyes.

Private Internet Access works pretty well and the speed is good. Not sure why guy above says don't use an American company. Our data retention laws are basically non-existent which allows these companies to keep no logs of your activity. They are probably more secure than many foreign providers.

Because American companies are easy to threaten. I wish North Korea had a service. That would be the best service for an American.

I'm having a terrible time with Netflix. I recently bought a smart TV so I don't have to run all connections through my PC, but I can't install VPN software on it. Can someone give me pointers on setting up a ubee router (I have Time Warner) so I can get less than crap?

Sounds like a naïve statement after what Snowden revealed. My bet that is NSA has some metadata from all American VPNs. I don't believe that the information NSA has is being shared with other sources of the government unless NSA determines the info to be a threat to national security but I doubt any information is being shared with media companies.

I use VPN when I'm on a public wifi connection, like at Starbucks.

The goal is not to become untraceable, the goal is to be more secure than the most susceptible people so you don't get targeted. So if you use a VPN you're making yourself more secure than 99% of everyone else.

I think suggestion given by you is nice, I agree with you as private internet access works well.
