School me on polo shirts.

I'm a 21 year old male and don't own a single collared shirt besides my uniform from my last job. I know nothing about buying one or whats in style, so i have lots of stupid questions.

How do I know if wearing the right size, when I lift my arms over my head where should the bottom of the shirt be?

Colors? Which ones should i avoid? Shirts with stripes look ugly to me, are they or do I just not know any better?

Do they have to be tucked in all the time? What about the ones with the little slit on the bottom (looks like a cut out triangle)?

Assuming I buy a 100% cotton shirt and dry it on high heat how much should I expect it to shrink?

Are you suppose to iron these things? I don't think I've ever seen someone wear one with wrinkles but i don't remember any with creases either.

All you need to know is it's crucial to pop the collar on it. Or is that fad that 50's/80's/00's fad gone again?

a really good fit indicator for upper garments are the seam lines. the seam between the body of the shirt and the sleeves should fall right at the corner where your should breaks into your arm. when i see seams that drape over onto the upper arms... thats so slouchy

shirts with "tennis" tails.. ie longer back flap should be tucked in. most shirts should be tucked in..but casual, contemporary one with a tube bottom can be worn like a t-shirt

stripes are casual look for kids

all clothing only shrink on the initial wash

theres lots of different materials and details that determine how nice or casual a polo shirt is... whether the its mesh or smooth, cotton or pima or polyester blend, cuffed or barrel sleeves, etc etc
