School me on Battlestar Galactica

I've never watched but have finally gotten around to it. Since it's all said at this point I am trying to get it in order. I am finishing Caprica now. If I am understanding it right next up is the "miniseries" which from what I am finding is in two parts? Then the regular show. Am I going about this in the right order?

BSG is nothing short of awesome!. Better still if, like me, you watched the original series when it first aired.

i just started watching this too. is it better than star trek tng?

Can't be, nothing can be better than TNG! I will say this, I have been very dissapointed with Caprica, it flat sucks. If BSG wasn't loved by pretty much everyone I would have quite watching it but I want to see the whole deal in order.

just remember, when there is about 5 minutes left in the final episode, turn it off and be happy.

You'd be crazy to even compare it to any Star Trek series. The only two things they have in common are:

1 - Takes place in space
2 - Fiction

BSG is infintely more accessible to women, too. I've had a couple of GF and an ex-wife that have watched and enjoyed it with me. I believe there are 7 women in the lower 48 states that have done the same with Star Trek and that was just the original cuz they thought Kirk was hot and funny. BSG is more similar to Lost than it is to Star Trek.

I really need to finish the series. I got to (I think) the end of season 4 and then stopped because of my workload. Might have to sign up for Hulu Plus just to finish out the series... :hmm:

I really like the series so far, but is the rest of it just as good? I don't want to wind up watching another Lost and having the end be a bunch of nonsense. 😛

Caprica makes more sense if you watch it after BSG, IMO. I thought Caprica was good, but nothing compared to BSG.

Just to point out, BSG deals a LOT with religion, mythology, god(s), angels, etc. It's a key part of the story from the start. Also, this is not a sci-fi show. It's a fantastic drama that just happens to be set in a sci-fi environment. It's all about the characters. Most people dislike the show more than they should because they weren't watching it right. These things became MUCH more apparent to me when I watched it a 2nd time through. I have to say, that 2nd time through was even better than the 1st time.

I'm still only 3 episodes away from finishing the series. I still like it alright, just less will to finish it.

..but I'm supposed to watch Caprica first then some 2-part miniseries before the shows? I did not do that.

No, you should watch Caprica after the BSG miniseries + series.

Caprica is set in an earlier time period but was written and shown afterwards. There is a lot of foreshadowing in it that is aimed at viewers who already know what will happen later in BSG.

oh right, the miniseries is the first 2 1.5 hour episodes that open the series, right? the whole invasion and all.

I held off for a year or so on this show b/c streaming only had the regular season, but the 2 episode miniseries/opener was only available on disc for that time.

yes, netflix, and then further streaming, have made me a worthless, lazy, bastard.

I just thought it was a "prequel". I have two episodes of it left and then I'll start the miniseries, darn job getting in the way.

same advice here as i give for lost- watch the first bit of it, until it gets really engrossing, then quit watching and pretend it was cancelled.

you don't want to see the end. or a lot of the middle. run while you can.
