Detroit Police and Michigan State Police were on scene investigating, trying to determine how this happened and who was at fault.

I'll save them some trouble. This happened because a kid stuck their head out a window. The kid is at fault.

Parents Want Council To Look Into Bus Death

The day after an 11-year-old girl who stuck her head out of a school bus window and was fatally struck by a branch, a group of parents from her Detroit school went to city officials and demanded action.

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing told the parents that school children's safety is his first priority and that he will be reviewing their safety recommendations.

Parents also met with City Council President Charles Pugh Friday and demanded that a stop sign be erected where the freak accident happened, on Pershing and Central streets on the city's southwest side.

:hmm:

unbelevable.

"She's just very smart, and loved her music. (She was on the) honor roll, she loved her teachers, and Twilight (books and movies). Yeah, she was Twilight-crazy," said Ross-DiCicco's aunt, Paula Wallace.

honor roll student? perhaps to be on the honor roll they should have a little test.

If the bus is moving i sit smart to hang out the window? a 3 page essay to explain why or why not.

what is a stop sign going to do?

Just shut up. Some of you people are total jerks. You act as if you never did anything stupid when you were a kid.

awww, did Xenon's kid get hit by a tree too?

I don't think the kid was particularly stupid (just normal kid stupid), they just got unlucky. I will, however, reserve the right to laugh at these stupid parents that are so caught up in their emotions that they've lost the ability to think.

I did well in school when I was 11, and I did stupid shit too. I did things much more dangerous than sticking my head out of a bus window. It's a shame she died, but kids are... kids. I use to play chicken on the train tracks. Was it stupid? Of course, but the kids I grew up around tended to not always make the best decisions. It's part of being a child. BB gun wars, throwing rock battles. When stories like this get posted here = and I see the response from a lot of ATOTers, I wonder if any of them actually had a child hood. I suspect anyone on here who had fun as a child did at least a couple thing that could have gotten them killed. I'd rather have fond memories of doing stupid shit at 11 and be alive today. Than to be alive today and remember nothing but a boring ass child hood.

Save the tree? That way kids smack into the stop sign and do not damage the tree.

Knowing what I do about American kids, at least one of those little rugrats has to have had a phone with a camera.
I guarantee there are pics of this floating around somewhere. Find them. Get them. Show them to all school children in America.

I bet you a million dollars NO KID will ever stick his head out the window ever again.

There are many things in life that we can learn to avoid is this:

DONT STICK OUT your head out from the window "while" the vehicle is moving !!!!!

sad for the lost.

I really don't understand how the bus got that close to the tree. I also don't get how the bus driver didn't yell at the kid to get their head back in the bus.

the driver was probably busy actually driving. regardless, while it is sad, darwinism has done its job. ill have to remember to tell my kids sticking their head out of a window in a moving vehicle is a horrible fucking idea.

i feel awful for the kids family...terribe, tragic accident.
