It's approximately one hour before the California Governator speaks tonight about the budget. This is a guy who was elected on a promise not to raise taxes and not to cut educational funding. Much of the CA budget is fixed. I don't think he'll announce a tax increase tonight, but look for it before the end of February. He's in much the same situation that George Bush I (read my lips) was in. It's clear that taxes must be raised. For those too young to remember, George I had a famous election line about raising taxes, "Read my lips." and he promised he wouldn't raise taxes. Of course, he did raise taxes. The Democratic candidates stupidly did admit that they'd have to raise taxes.

I'm still looking for that fierce terrorist attack that was predicted on this board to occur before the Muslim holiday that occurs in early February.

I dont think the voters will find tax increases palatable without spending cuts.
Reading something earlier about the teachers union being ok with 2 billion in cuts to the education funding.

i want him to invade the indian tribes if they don't give up a fair share of the casino revenues. they already suck off the public teet, and now they add a social/economic burden to us while not providing the usual tax benifits used to justify such things. they don't contribute to the infrastructure around such casinos thatallow them to exist. soverign my ass.

Republicans LOVE to spend.

But Arnie is somewhat moderate so maybe he'll do some good.

Yes, the tax increase will not come until after the March elections. Right now, a California budget can be passed only if 2/3'ds of the legislature approves it. The March elections will attempt to authorize borrowing $15 B and change the law so that a budget can be passed by 55% of the legislature.

GaltTwit, in response to my statement of

"I'm still looking for that fierce terrorist attack that was predicted on this board to occur before the Muslim holiday that occurs in early February."

You replied, "I am sure you are...hoping...waiting...wishing "

Actually if I'd been on your mind more than I obviously have been, you would have known that there was a thread saying "Major terrorist attack before mid-February." My response was, "Bvllsh!t" meaning, I hold a contrary opinion. So, far from hoping, waiting, and wishing, I'd rather be proved right. But the U.S. government needs a certain amount of hysteria. Second, I have been cosistently against the taking of human life in my entries on this board. I know it's tough for you to understand that one doesn't have to entirely and unreservedly support one side, but some of us can do it. By the way, If you want to shoot off your mouth with that kind of unsubstantiated (and unjustified) rant, I suggest you brush you teeth with gunpowder. You'll do a better job. See you in February for my monthly rant about the inaccuracy of your signature.

Moony, he might try straight sex, but all the politicians have learned that a blow job will justify millions in investigative expenses.

Personally I hope instead of raising taxes he cuts out social services spending for everyone who is *capable* of supporting themselves but won't get a damn job. I also would really love it if he introduced the School Voucher system and started firing incompetent schoolteachers to replace them with people who actually give a damn about their jobs. Unfortunately, the vast majority of public school teachers don't care about what they do; if not for the few bright spots in the educational landscape (And I've been fortunate to have known several) the public school system would be a total wash.

problem with california is that idiots waste our tax money. When I was in HS we got 500k from Gray Davis for upgrading the computer system. they bought all the computers and did all the networking.... afterwards they realised that the school electrical system is not capable of running all the computers, so the computers just sat there for like a year (most of them anyway) i can go on and on about public schools don't need anymore money. they need to spend their money WISELY, that's all. A lot of state agencies are the same... wasting money wise.

California is the most liberal state in the country, we have a democratic legislature and I don't see them solving ANY inner city problems in the state, which are some of the worst in the nation. California democrats messed up and lost my vote (i was a democrat btw, WAS)
