yes,
both the Asus P4C800 and the Abit IC7-G are 800fsb canterwood motherboards.

my test board is an Asus P4G8X-D Granite Bay .....which is only a 533fsb motherboard (667fsb unofficially)

Well, one can find the Asus in limited Qty's. But what about the Abit?
Back in the PIII days I was experimenting with different boards from Soyo, MSI, Epox, Asus, and IWill to take a small break from Abit.
I had to learn the hard way never to cheat on Abit again. Although if I were to switch, Asus would be my most likely the choice to goto...

But I am doing it again :Q.... I have an Albatron sitting on my desk waiting for me to find money on another CPU... Do I dare cheat on Abit again... Most of the other boards showed a vulgar display of power to the CPU and fried them.
After uninstalling wife 1.0 I found that that particular version of wife also uninstalls all versions of personal finance. :(

i think the 2 big contenders here are gonna be Abit and Asus at first.

once someone on here reviews one of these bad boys, well have a better idea of which way to go.

quite a few ppl here are also impressed with Albatron PE boards, so i would assume someone will be reviewing their canterwood offering.

yea thats a nasty bug aint it?

thats because while wife1.0 is run as a stand alone program ~ it tends to integrate itself into everything.

so there is no actual real uninstall ~ you have to manually delete it and all the junk it leaves behind ;)

I'm one of them. Albatron makes a nice board at a very good price. They should be right there. Dont forget about EPoX. They had top offerings in all of the 845x boards. Like Abit, they decided to skip GB due to cost and the impending 875/865 chipset releases. Gigabyte has also had some good boards.

Evan will be reviewing a board each day this week. Not sure which ones.

well...another option might work...i am gonna try downloading some clean up programs...but i guess the best way to get rid or everything is reformatting...lol...but i don't want to loose all my stuff along with it...

p.s. this wife 1.0 seems like a hacking program or like some online tracking programs...the pop up when they feel like and you can't ever get rid of them...even with the lastest AD-Ware or Pop-Ups Stoppers...argh...:|

Shouldn't you guys wait for some board reviews?? Why jump on the P4C800 without even seeing how it is and how the other boards compare? I have no doubt that the Asus will be a great board, but I'd wait a week or so to see a few reviews. Besides that, you will be paying top dollar buying on launch day.

Just MHO. :)

Cr@p... I was thinking of thrying this proggie out... You guys are scaring me with all these problems... Is it worth getting it? (I mean IT IS expensive.. :Q :p)

umm... getting back on the subject... Those 2 boards are very tempting... I'm thinking of going with Abit, one of the reasons being that it comes with active cooling on the NB.. If these are anything like PE's or GB's, the NB's get hot as ... :)

When I see a fan on the NB it makes me NOT want the board. Just another noisy fan. Did you see the size of the NB HS on the Intel brand board? Its HUGE. That is the way to do it. Use a big passive HS,

I would hold off on the Asus just yet - major premium for early availability - remember that this is only a four layer boards instead of six layers - that makes it a lot less expensive than the GB boards even with the increase cost of the new northbridge and southbridge chips. These boards should be well under $200 since the Intel boards is only $175.

The Gigabyte board is way off the deepend with extras and probably price - supports something like 12 IDE devices out of the box - 2 IDE, 2 IDE RAID, 4 SATA connections.
AOpen has three models that should be reasonably priced.
Abit has the IC7-G coming out that is the only one I have seen using the Intel Gigabit chip - I think Gigabyte might be as well.
Asus seems to have a good blend of features and their A.I. looks like an interesting feature if it works.....

Should be a much clearer picture by the end of the week. Don't expect to get one before the 22nd though.

I agree with you on the noise level, as I really can't stand any fans making more than ~25dba or so. But it seems like the ones with passive HS isn't really good enough when we oc these boards (IMO)... I replaced stock HS on my BH7 with the Zalman HS, and it still get toasty... I haven't really pushed it enough to really tell the benefits yet though... With these boards, I'm likely to push it to its limits and with active cooling on the NB, that *might* be one less cooling I have to think about.. :) I'm ok with noise on these rigs, as they won't be up 24/7. My server, on the other hand, needs to be quiet and the fans in there never run at more than 7v. :)

Yeah, I saw that Intel HS. Really good looking unit. :)

I picked up Zalman ZM-NB32J for ~$5/ea. :) Pretty nice HS, IMO.

Btw, WARNING for those with BH-7 or IT7! DO NOT use this HS with stock clip!!! It DOES work with it, which is how I set it up first. At first, I used some ASII and the clip to attach it my BH7. Then something came up and I had to put the board away for about a week. So, a week later, I got everything laid out to put them all together, and all of a sudden, I heard this *PING* sound coming from the board! Apparently, the clip was giving too much pressure & it POPPED the hook out of the board!!! :Q:Q Imagine my shock... :disgust: Anyways, I just got p*ssed and used AS epoxy to permanently glue that sucker on... It's not that heavy of HS, so it should be ok, me thinks... :)

Thugs, the heatsink on the Abit boards ( BH7 and IT7 anyways) are a little smaller than the Asus HS and the 40mm fan goes on slightly crooked. Not that it would make that much of a difference. The screws don't take well on it either.I had mine on good enough with screws but it would be better to use thermal adhesive on the the HS or replace it.Plus it has the 2 rings so something like a Vantec Iceberg copper you would have to use thermal adhesive cause it uses push pins.I am not sure how much longer I will keep my IT7 Max2 V2.I hate to stick my Vantec on it cause I'll never get it back;).

Asus boards use 4 pins to hold the HS down.
on the p4g8x its a very sturdy unit ~ it wont move even if you try to move it after modding it.
the HS is actually 50mm which of course can hold a larger fan.

* the granite bay core is a bit larger then a i845 core actually.

does the Abit boards only have 2 pins holding the NBHS on? :Q
i remember the BE7 only had 2 :(

Yeah,2 arms diagnally on the Abit with those 2 little rings on the mobo. The heatsink is smaller than the Asus ones that I seen. The screws want to come out the side when you try to put a 40mm fan on it and it goes on slightly crooked.I am surprised though with the BH7 since they advertise it as an overclocking board they don't even have a fan on the NB.The core on my IT7 Max2 V2 NB is the same size as a Tbred core..LOL.
