Scary though: Internet Taxes could be here soon

This is definitely not good for us internet users. Especially those of us who shop online. This is all Bush's fault. He was the one who brought about a recession to the economy. Taxing internet is ridiculous! I do not support this at all. If the government is short on cash, then why give up a huge tax cut!? Damn government..congress...

I AGREE!! Damn that bastard Bush, he is such a horrible person he managed to start the economic slowdown months before he became president, hell even before the election.

Bush, hes the lesser of two evils. Trust me on this, if Gore was president everyone would be complaining more than they're now.

btw, who said we're in a recession?

I'm sure all the people bashing Bush are the same tards that start all the "Hey look at the new video card he bought me" threads.

Yeah I would defintely have to agree with gag bag....I havent heard anything about recession. Also if you think it would be any diffrent with Gore in office.Your mistaken, cause we all know big business runs america , and the fact of the matter is the same people would be in charge even if Gore were president.

u cant say anything about Gore cause u have no idea what his presidency would be like...but on a side note at least Gore isnt retarded

hah you think not? Think.......Clinton. More lieing, cheating, scaming etc.

this is nothing -- what do you all think is going to happen when we get hardcore IP telephony???

The thing is that taxing the internet wont work cause people from outside the US buy stuff from the US> Granted the US e-commerce economy is much greater than other countries combined, yet the whole idea of taxing the internet is illogical. In this day of free market economy, the ideas of post war capitalism wont work here. I dont know how to explain it, but isnt taxing the internet cause repercussions in US ecommerce. I mean dont we already pay "State" taxes for stuff that we buy from many online retailers? A seperate tax for a person buying something from the US to be shipped to the UK is ridiculous.

Bush can try imposing it but it just wont work.

Syringer ,First of all where did you get that this is Bush's Idea? And second,do you even pay attention to your government at all? The economy started going downhill Around october 2000, which was in Clinton's Presidency(not that it was his fault anyway). And you do realize that Bush did a tax cut to stimulate the economy? Dont want this turning into a Politics thread cuz there is more than enough, maybe next time learn some facts before blaiming the entire economy on one person. Thats what Greenspan is for 🙂

Edit: BTW you do realized that this is a Governor proposing this?

Wyoming Gov. Jim Geringer on Saturday urged Congress to allow states to tax e-commerce to replenish state coffers.

By the time this gets voted into congress which will be forever,if it even makes it, it wont pass. BTW, Syringer, why were you blaiming bush for this tax increase on internet buying again?

<< XCLAN<-----------------shoves his foot up bush's ass >>

Why? Last time I looked, Bush was dead set against any and all Internet taxes.

This idea is ridiculous. There have been interstate catalogue sales for years that escaped state sales taxes. I cannot believe the Internet has increased interstate sales so much that states are hurting for tax income because of it.

Jim Geringer is an idiot in a state with nothing to offer it's citizens, so they go outside the state over the Internet and through catalogue sales to buy what they need. Instead of taxing them, maybe he should offer incentives for retailers to move to his state...

so ummm...
internet sales are essentially yet another way to access the retailer's warehousing. originally, you went to the warehouse, looked at the merchandise, whatever. you bought it, they taxed it. then came mail order catalogues. you looked through a flyer or book and mailed in your order. they didn't tax that. still haven't. then came the telephone, and then you could call and talk to someone who entered your order into the system. then the system became computerized. but you still had to talk to a CSR. it is still not taxed. then comes the internet, where you can enter your order into the system yourself. since no other catalogue interstate commerce has tax collected by the vendor, neither should internet style. technically, you're supposed to collect the taxes yourself and take them to whereever, but no one does.
