Today I looked out into the backyard to see a hole in our fencing and our puppies were no where in sight. My girlfriend and I went on a frantic search of the neighborhood to no avail. I rode around on my boe for nearly two hours, squeaking their favorite toy the entire time. We made all the proper phone calls to animal services and the local vets and the newspaper and no one had heard anything yet. I made up a flyer and started posting it around the area in hopes someone would see it and call.
About 4 hours went by and we had heard nothing yet. It was starting to get dark outside and I was really becoming concerned as they are only 4 months old and our area is home to raccoons, skunks, and other critters that might decide they dont like the boys invading their territory. Finally around 7 o'clock my phone rang and it was a gentleman who lived about three streets down. He informed me that he had two crazy puppies there at his house and animal services had given him my number in hopes that they were mine. I heard them bark in the background and I knew that he had my pups.
I threw on some sweats and slippers and drove over there as fast as I could. Sure enough he stood outside with both Maverick and Goose, whose attention was solely fixed on the cat walking across the street. As I pulled up I had to choke back a few tears as the horrible ordeal was finally over. He told me that his girlfriend found them on the trail behind our house and they followed her home. She fed them and played with them and as soon as he got home from work called animal services to report them found. I tried to give him a reward but he wouldn't accept saying the look on my face was enough for him. I guess I didnt hide my happiness too well as I pulled up.
After a quick trip to the pet store to get them new collars and ID tags (apparently theirs had fallen off at some point in the day) we are now back home lounging around like nothing happened. I was suprised at how upset I got when I couldn't find them since we've only had them for two months. I suppose that dogs really ARE mans best friend. I patched up the hole in the fence and made a perimeter check to see if there could be any other issues but it looked clean.
As per the norm, they are cuddled as close as caninely possible to me while I surf around on my laptop. I would never wish what happened to me today upon anybody and will be sure to try to help out lost animals as much as I can from here on out. That's it, all in all a good day but its scary to think of what could have happened...

Puppies ran away
Puppies were found
All is well
Well Deserved Rest
