N64 game called Shadow Man. The whole thing was really creepy and serial killery, but the worse was in the Asylum when pig-headed, hook-handed motherfuckers would jump out at you.

Hotel level from Vampire was pretty scary overall.

Y'know, I laughed my way through that level. Why? Because I WAS A VAMPIRE! What's a ghost going to do to me? I am immortal and a perfect predator, a finely tuned killing machine already imbued with the supernatural. As far as I was concerned, ghosts were the pussies of the undead world. I was definitely a few notches up on the food chain than a simple ghost.

My scariest moment was about 20-30 minutes into the original Half Life. You're working your way through the first lab and come to a partially flooded room. I looked around and found a desk with a vent above and jumped carefully over to it. I knocked the vent out with the crowbar and it was pitch black. I pulled out my flashlight and

HEADCRAB!

I screamed and fell out of my chair, knocking the keyboard off my desk. Gordon fell into the water and was electrocuted.

The X-18 Lab in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, I still try to avoid that place as much as possible to this very day.

I remember when playing Shadow of Chernobyl I was leaving the Agroprom Underground and was tense as hell after all the crap that was down there. I went into a tunnel, turned right and headed for the exit ladder when I hear a large moan. I frantically turn around only to see a controller, that I must have missed on the left standing right behind me. It was the only time I had ever yelled during a video game.

ROFL! That one was one of my favorite moments! I almost fainted when that happened...

The first facehugger I met in Aliens vs Predator back in 1999. I was playing and a friend was watching the game. Then the bleeps started to happen and we were looking for the enemy, faces pretty close to the screen. I jumped back so much, I tripped the chair I was on and my friend ran away from the room :D Never happened again.

I did love the feel of the whole of System Shock 2. Dead Space was creepy too.

Doom 3, so many parts of it, at least in the first half of the game scared the crap outta me. First time with baby crying, and footsteps of blood with no body, comes to mind.

FEAR, where that little girl runs in front of you that first time. Gave me the biggest creepiest chills ever, nothing scary about the rest of the game though.

This is essentially the scariest moment in any game I've ever played. I was playing the game after midnight when I came across this room in Silent Hill 4, saw that fucking thing, then almost immediately turned off the game and went to bed.

WOW! I was not expecting that. I still have not had a chance to play through SH4, but holy shit that would have freaked me out too because of the quick camera angle change.

Scariest moment, HL Episode 1 in the basement without any ammo left and almost complete darkness, except for the grenade light from a zombie coming right at me.

Scariest game, probably The Suffering, but I still have to go through Amnesia

The Hotel quest in Vampire Bloodlines. Old tricks and techniques, but very well done.

Unreal 1. Exiting first area through stone hallway when both ends got blocked and the lights went off. When the creature jumped out from the hidden compartment I just about messed myself. I was finger fumbling the keys and couldn't aim the mouse straight. Got me good.

That was a good one. Light clicking off one-by-one.

Darkness..

Doom 3. Overall more repetative then scarey but turning down that bloodspattered hall and hearing that girl's voice say "They took my baby"... yeah that as pretty effing freaky.

Doom 3 had some of the scariest moments ever in a game. I used to play it in my bedroom at 2:00 AM in the dark. The surround setup made it sound like I was in the middle of the Mars complex. It didn't help that I lived alone either.

Silent Hill 2, though I never got through much of it was the most "creepy scared" I've been in a game.

FEAR probably had the best "shock scare" moments for me... the worst was when you started climbing down a ladder, and the way the view point changed gave you a quick glimpse of the girls as you headed down. Scared the shit out of me (it was also part of the demo).

It was probably just my sleep deprivation, but I was cowering under a staircase in the game trying to work my nerve up enough to go and see what happened.

That's funny.

I agree like every part of Doom III was pretty ridiculous. You never could get used to it. Terrible for the nerves. System Shock 2 was pretty incredible when you climb that pipe and see the blood on the walls.

Potential Spoiler for Condemned:

How about the first Condemned when you are in the mall and there are all these manequins in the stores. You knew something was coming. Then you kill a couple but there are still tons of non moving ones around you, lol. You are just looking over your shoulder to see if they move, every time you go by one.... There were alot of parts like that it that game. Real sleeper if you haven't played it.
