Did you guys miss the safety line that runs all the way along the path. That kind of kills it for me. I would do that no problem as long as I was clipped in like that.

I'd be pretty confident in it actually. They probably can't repair the trail because its impossible to get the equipment in those places, but its not hard to maintain a safety wire. And the fact that there even is a safety wire or that people are aloud to travel on it says enough for me. Its not as if they would let people they don't know, possibly inexperienced hikers, balancing on round poles thousands of feet up. I'd do it.

Official access to the path was removed in 2000 after a tourist died trying to cross it.

Not to diminish your reply, but wiki has no citation for that fact. I'm sure people have died though. "However, many adventurous tourists still find their way onto the walkway to explore it." So its not like people randomly stumble across this path and say "hey this could be fun". The hikers in the pictures on wiki are geared as if they knew damn well what they are getting into.
About that safety cable though 🙂 If they officially shut it down in 2000 and it hasn't been checked or maintained in 9 years then that's a little concerning. I think if I was with people that have done it before or could assure me that its doable I'd do it.

I do agree though, if I was certain of the safety wire and had proper gear, I'd do it. Especially if the restorations are completed.

Well, if you are certain of the safety wire then it is a cake walk. It is the uncertainty that makes it challenging.

I fully admit I am a big clumsy oaf, but the sections where he had to walk on just the metal beam made me a little queasy. Unless this is less scary in real life than it appears on the video, I would be too afraid to hike it.

Yeah that happens in real life. When have you seen a video that was less scary than the real thing...

It's just that it's hard to judge perspective on video sometimes, so it's hard to know for sure how the reality tracks with what that video shows. The videographer here appears to be more athletic than me, but he makes it fairly easily across the beam sections. I'm fairly sure I'd be too paralyzed by fear to even try, but sometimes these things are not as bad as they seem. Honestly, though, knowing myself as I do, I don't see the point in my trying to do this just to do it - the risk to reward ratio just doesn't support it. Actually I will be in Andalucia in April, so I could try it then, but I won't!
