I thought it sucked too - it took me 2 sittings to get through the whole thing. I was let down.

Scarface is a classic. So many good scenes and good lines. If you were a fan of gansta rap in the late 80s, you pretty much knew half the dialog from the movie. Tony is a badass.

I loved it and have seen it several times.

You don't have to like what everyone else does. If you didn't like it, so be it. No reason to try and find out why others did like it.

love the movie. and the point i think the movie is trying to convey is that no one is at the top forever. what comes up, must come down.

and to the op, you mentioned seeing 'the godfather'. have you seen part ii yet? also a great movie. probably not as much action as the first, but a very, very good storyline. also, a better understanding of vito's history and background.

I have to agree, Scarface is a really good movie. I guess for some of us who remember the 80's, when all of the Cuban refugees were hitting the coast of Florida, the movie probably makes a little more sense......some great one liners too......

You don't know how bad the drug scene was in the late 70s and early 80s in Miami. I think a chainsaw is much less far fetched than many of the REAL accounts I've read over the years from there and elsewhere. Drug dealers are not the nicest of fellows.

Oh, and Scarface is a timeless classic!!

*points finger* He said white he must be racist. Waa waa waaaaaa.
There does seem to be a double standard.

What you said sounds like what a black man would say, anyway.

I give $800,000, you could buy the Supreme Court. :) Scarface is the top crime boss ever. No doubt.

1. Scarface
2. Tony Soprano (even he's not from a movie)
3. Nino Brown

Ok you sissy, tell the truth, did you cry when the guy got his leg cut off by a freaking chainsaw?

It was a chainsaw to his head it appeared. It was gruesome to the extent of disbelief. I've seen worse in a context where the person was so messed up I might believe it. Typical drug dealers aren't elaborate enough to bring a damn chainsaw to a deal.

Wrong, if you watch the collector's edition DVD, and listen to the commentary by Oliver Stone, he says there were many cases of chainsaw murders in drug crimes in the news.

From what I hear, the movie didn't do good in the theaters. It became a hit afterwards.
Correct. It was extremely controversial when it first came out in theaters, and most theaters didn't even show the movie.

The only problem I had with it was that it did not meet the hype about it before it was released. It was supposed to have been ultra-violent and it wasn't.
It was ultra violent in a way that it didn't show a lot of gore. That's the beauty of it. Watching Tony Montana have his friend's leg cut off in front of him with him screaming, the chainsaw roaring, and blood splattering everywhere is about the most adrenaline you'll get in a violent movie.

I guess the prejudice involved escapes you, how...unsurprising.

Shhhhhh, he'll get it sooner or later...

I thought the movie went too far over the top with Pacino's role. It was okay but I wouldn't put it in my top 100 movies list, that's for sure.
