I just saw this movie after renting it from the library (lol). I wasn't, and still am not, a huge fan of mob movies. I watched the first Godfather and thought it had a very good plot and absolutely loved it. The script was great, the acting was superb, and I actually cared about what was going on. I also saw Goodfellas within the last year and thought it was superb. You can't beat Deniro, Pesci, and Liotta together.
I'm bored on Spring Break and so I decided to check out Scarface. I usually love Pacino in all his other roles. This movie was just stupid. Pacino did a great job acting, but I just can't like the movie if the plot was terrible.
I cared nothing about the characters, you don't 'learn' anything, some decisions made in the movie make no sense whatsoever, and I just didn't believe anything that was going on. There wasn't enough development of Tony's best friend and I wouldn't have blinked an eye of Michelle Pfeiffer had just not been in the rest of the movie after her initial appearance. The cinematography wasn't spectular nor was the soundtrack. What is there to like about this movie except Al Pacino and possibly idiot stoners thinking any movie involving cocaine is good?
I've also got to say that this is the second Oliver Stone movie I've seen, the first being Natural Born Killers, and both have been hyped way more than they deserve. Perhaps if this one had a decent soundtrack like NBK (see sig) I would have been more impressed.
Somebody please tell me what the draw is for this movie aside from being horribly cliched and having a poster of Tony Montana on your dorm room wall. Why do YOU like the movie?
