scanpci -v...ok help

ok so when i ran scanpci -v from the terminal this is what it comes back with

Fatal Error:
xf86Enable IOPorts: Failed to set IOPL to l/0

was trying to get the I/O settings to configure my modem under wvdial.

any suggestions...comments?
 
Sounds like you weren't root when you issued that command. You have to be root to use that tool. Just su to root and then try it again.
 
err, I don't know what that is. Just open a regular term, like you're doing now I assume, then type su then type the root password. You are now root.
