Scanning

I have used hand held scanners. They are useful for small copies of text. In some cases, I could have typed the text faster due to having to correct errors from the scanner. For me, a full page scan is the way to go, i.e., a flatbed scanner.
 
What are some good companies for that? Also, is a flatbed scanner handheld/portable, or is it stationary?
 
Epson, Canon, Fujitsu and HP all make good flatbeds. No, they are not handheld - they are stationary. Flatbed scanning is also included in most good all in one printers. Anything handheld will be severely limited and prone to errors. You can do better just taking a macro photo with a camera and then converting the image to editable text.
 
I was just thinking because if I use wording from textbooks, what would be the best option to go instead of having to type it out.
 
That would depend on the use. If it is to simply record the text for reference, a camera will do it. It the text is to be used in an editable document, then it needs to be scanned and converted. It depends on the length or amount of text to be copied. If the text book has an ebook version, then copy and paste would be my choice. IOW, if you can find that text on line, that would be the easiest solution. Example:
