Scanning w/ Linux

I just got a hand-me-down HP Officejet R40, and while it's very nice to finally be able to print with linux (As opposed to moving it over to the office computer and printing there) I have never before dealt with scanning in linux. Currently I'm just running ubuntu, and plan to keep it that way since I'll be getting a new laptop soon, anyways.

Any thoughts on configuring this scanner in Gnome?

Linux scanning typically comes down to A)It works with SANE, all is well or B) it doesn't work in SANE, there is no hope. According to reports, you are in luck with yours. Give http://hpoj.sourceforge.net/ a look for the drivers, if Ubuntu doesn't come with them(it does come with SANE).

I've had a bit of problem with HP Scanners in Linux in the past , hopefully you'll have a little bit more luck then what I had
