Scanners- CIS verses Cold Cathode type type, how much of a difference?

Scanner question:

CIS LED array type verses Cold Cathode type type, how much of a difference? I believe that the Cold Cathode type scanners are better, but how much better? Is there a large difference in quality and scan depth?
