scanner problems in win2k

Microsoft imaging and Photoshop 6.01 will crash while trying to access the scanner. It's an ACER Prisa USB 310u. I have the proper mira-scan drivers installed, and the scanner worked before I put it in the closet a month ago... and now it makes the programs crash. Any ideas for me?

Probably gonna have to buy a new scanner.
