Scanner problem... please help!

Ok I have a Scanport SQ300 (32bit) and when I scan pictures they are all either very dark or not veiwable.... What am I doing wrong? Im using the software that came w/ it to scan... The name of it is Presto.

Are you setting the software to use the highest dpi, etc.?? Also, is it USB or Serial??
