Scanner isn't recognized

I have used a Macintosh since 1988 but recently acquired a Sony PC with Windows XP. After deciding to move my scanner, an Astra MX3, to the PC, I ordered the software for installation. It installed fine and shows up where it's supposed to, the drivers are in place, but the testing utility shows the scanner isn't connected. The only way I can scan is to click on the scanner icon and get into the scanning utility by right-clicking the scanner in My Computer and clicking Scan. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted, read somewhere that someone was advising moving the switch from SCSI to USB, but I don't have a switch so I connected with SCSI to my PC.

Anyone have an idea wht is wrong?

In order to use SCSI you have to have the SCSI drivers and BIOS installed. Otherwise, SCSI will not exist.

If the Scanner has a USB port, then hot plug it to the computer's USB port. I think that is what is meant by "switch."
