hi, i haven't used my scanner for a year or so, and now that school started again I have had the need to use it. When i fired it up, i updated all the drivers and everything and then went to scan it. When the scanner start scanning, it does everything normally, but then when it gets to the end of the page, it keeps trying to force the light lamp further and hits the end of the bed. After it does that, it just stays there and keeps trying to go on, and never comes back untill i unplug it and then plug it back in.

The scanner wasn't hit in anyway or anything, and seems to be in good condition. Its a hp scanjet 5500c and i even tryed hooking it up to a laptop to make sure it wasn't the drivers giving me trouble. I tryed everything, and no avil, please help

some scanners have an encoder strip to tell the unit where the carriage is, check to see if somehow (if your model has an encoder strip) it has come loose so its not reporting properly to the carriage sensor. another possability is the mainboard of the unit just wont calibarate and your scanner is hosed.
